Chapter 26
Chapter 26
Serena was going insane from jealousy. She hissed through clenched teeth, “You’re the one who hurt her the most. How shameless do you have to be to claim that you love her?”
Damien’s face darkened frighteningly. “I told you to shut up!”
“You can’t stop me from talking!” Serena had completely lost all sense of rationality. “Not only do you not love her, but you also forced her to get pregnant with Julian’s child. You’re the one who pushed her away with your own hands. She’ll never go back to you for the rest of her life!”
Her words caused Damien’s anger to reach a boiling point. He lost control completely and clamped his
hands tightly around Serena’s neck. “I didn’t do anything wrong! It’s all your fault! You’re the one who
came between us and drove a wedge into our relationship!
“Avery will definitely return to my side once you’re gone, so you should just die right now, Serena!”
Damien began to exert more force, nearly crushing the bones in Serena’s throat.
Worried that he might actually kill her, Kaden rushed forward and pulled him away from Serena. “You
need to calm down, Mr. Whitlow. Your top priority right now should be to win Mrs. Whitlow back.
“If you accidentally kill Serena, you’ll be punished by the law, and you’ll never get to see Mrs. Whitlow
again!”
His words snapped Damien back to his senses. “You’re right. I’ll look for Avery right now!”
He was willing to do anything as long as she returned to his side.
Damien rushed outside. He was about to get into his car when Serena blocked his path.
“Don’t go! Don’t look for her! She doesn’t love you anymore. I’m the only one who loves you now, so let’s
get married, okay?”
“Get out of my way!”
Damien shoved her away. He didn’t spare a single glance back at her before he climbed into his car and left the villa. As a result, he didn’t notice Serena hitting the back of her head when she fell, fresh blood
instantly leaking out from the point of impact.
Serena had already lost consciousness by the time Kaden rushed onto the scene.
The rain turned into a storm as night fell. Damien sped along on the road, calling Avery over and over again as he drove. A robotic female voice reminded him every time that his number had been blocked by
Avery.
Damien lowered his head and switched his phone to a different number. The call had just gone through when a fully-loaded truck on the opposite road lost control and rammed into him, overturning his sports
car.

Excruciating pain exploded from his legs as blood spurted out in all directions. The unbearable sensation
made him pass out on the spot.
Three days had passed when Damien finally regained consciousness again. He stared in disbelief at his
empty pant legs.
Seeing that he was awake, the police officers who were stationed in the room approached him and declared, “Damien Whitlow, you’re under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can
and will be used against you in a court of law.”
The back of Serena’s head had split open when she fell and hit a rock after Damien shoved her, leaving her in a vegetative state. However, Damien’s expression didn’t change at all even after hearing the news.
He just kept insisting that Eldon call Avery.
Despite how only a few days had passed, Eldon looked like he had aged decades. His voice was hoarse
when he said, “You hurt her too deeply. She’ll never go back to you.”
“No!” Damien shouted, losing control over his emotions. “She loves me so much. She’ll definitely feel heartbroken if she knows that I’m in this state. Hurry and call her now, Grandpa. Tell her that I want to see
her! If you’re not going to help, I’ll just look for her myself!”
Feeling helpless, Eldon tossed his phone at Damien. “Call her yourself.”
Damien had memorized Avery’s phone number a long time ago. However, the call only rang for a few seconds before the line went dead. A few moments later, he received several messages from Avery.
“Please don’t call me anymore, Eldon. I won’t visit Damien. Also, I don’t want to know anything that’s
related to him either.”
Still unwilling to give up, Damien called Avery again, but she had blocked Eldon’s number. In the end, he had no choice but to accept that Avery was never going to return to his side.
A week later, the case was brought to court, but Damien was absent. Avery appeared at the courthouse with Julian in tow. As she had expected, the judge declared that her divorce from Damien was valid.
It didn’t take long for Damien to receive a call from his lawyer, telling him of the outcome. Although he had expected it, he still felt like his heart was being stabbed by countless blades.
The sun was shining brightly outside the window, but he felt like he had been plunged into a pool of freezing water. He was shaking violently all over. A long moment passed before he unlocked his phone and sent a message to Avery.
“I’m sorry for everything I did. I’ll love you forever.”
However, all that he received in return was a red exclamation mark.
Damien calmly placed his phone down and pulled out a fruit knife from under his pillow. He then impassively stabbed the knife into his throat. Blood spurted out from the opening as his consciousness turned murky.

He felt like he was submerged at the bottom of the ocean, where there was barely any light. It was getting increasingly difficult for him to breathe. Suddenly, Avery appeared before him. She gestured at him as if
she were saying, “Don’t worry, I’ll bring you back to shore.”
