Chapter 25
“It was me,” Julian affirmed with a nod. “You didn’t leave any contact information, even though you saved me. It took me five years to find out that you were my savior.”
Avery frowned. “So, you fell for me because I saved you?”
Julian burst into laughter. “Of course not. I think I must have fallen in love with you while I was looking for you. There’s a saying on the internet that claims that a man’s love is born from his curiosity toward a woman. I think it’s quite true.”
He stared at her before saying, “Anyway, I’ve loved you for ten years. I don’t want to let you slip through my fingers again.”
Avery was incredibly shocked by the revelation. It took her a long time to come back to her senses. It turned out that there was another person who was just like her-someone who had loved her for as long
as she had loved Damien.
A moment passed before Avery shook her head slowly. “You shouldn’t waste your time on me. There won’t be a good ending.”
She truly didn’t know whether she could love another person ever again.
Julian said in a low voice, “I decided to fall in love with you, Avery. I won’t resent you even if there isn’t a
good ending.”
Avery was stunned by his words. “How can you not resent me, when you’re offering up your genuine feelings while knowing it might not bear fruit?”
“Trust me. I can do it, and I won’t regret my decision,” Julian replied sincerely.
Avery’s eyes flashed, but before she could say anything more, the doorbell rang.
“Open the door, Avery! I know you’re in there!”
It was Damien’s voice.
Avery’s breath got caught in her throat. Julian squeezed her shoulder, saying, “Don’t worry. I’ll handle it.”
He then got up and opened the door.
Damien’s temper exploded when he saw Julian. “Where’s Avery?” he demanded. “I want to bring her home!
Julian sneered at him. “She’s my wife now. If you don’t leave, I’m going to report you to the police for harassment.”
Damien laughed, “You may be able to lie to Avery, but you can’t lie to me, Julian. You only got together with her to take revenge on me, didn’t you? Do you really believe that you can become the successor just because you married her?

“Keep dreaming. You’re nothing more than an illegitimate child. Grandpa will never hand over the Whitlow family to you! As for Avery, the person she loves is me. She has loved me for ten years. She probably only got together with you to anger me-”
Avery interrupted Damien, stopping him from continuing his rant. “I did love you for ten years, Damien, but that’s all in the past now. I don’t love you anymore. My husband and I are getting ready to turn in for the night. Please leave right now.”
Damien stared at her in disbelief, taking in the loathing and mocking look in her eyes. He knew how
Avery’s eyes appeared when he had been her entire world. It was how he knew that she had truly fallen out of love with him with just one look from her.
An indescribably sour sensation began to spread through his body. He forced himself to smile, saying, ” Stop trying to make me angry, Avery. I know that I was out of line. Come back with me, and I’ll make it up to you.”
Avery scoffed. “I don’t need you to compensate me. I just want you to never appear before me ever again.”
Damien was shaking all over, exclaiming, “I admit that I was wrong, Avery! I shouldn’t have hurt you, but I was also misled by Serena, thinking that she was the one who saved me. But I know the truth now. I know that you’re my savior, and I also know that the one I love is you.
“Give me another chance, Avery. I promise that I’ll love you the same way you loved me in the past. No-I swear that I’ll love you even more than you loved me, as long as you give me a second chance! Abort the baby in your belly. We’ll conceive another child that truly belongs to us.”
Unable to take it any longer, Avery had Julian slam the door in Damien’s face before she called the police. The police arrived soon after, forcing Damien to leave.
When Damien returned home, he made a beeline for the basement and took his anger out on Serena. He beat her until she was hovering on the brink of death, sobbing and begging for mercy.
“I was wrong. I shouldn’t have lied to you. Please forgive me. I swear I’ll never lie to you again!”
However, her words fell on deaf ears, Damien’s voice almost sounded demonic when he hissed, “If it weren’t for you, my relationship with Avery wouldn’t have ended up like this.”
If it hadn’t been for Serena’s interference, he would have started a family with Avery long ago. Their child probably would be grown and independent by now.
“It’s all because of your schemes. Avery refuses to forgive me, and she’s with Julian now!”
Damien’s fury intensified, and he nearly gave in to the impulse to kill Serena right there and then.
Meanwhile, Serena’s mounting frustration morphed into anger. “You hurt her, too, Damien,” she spat. “Why are you pinning all the blame on me? You’re the one who drugged her, and you’re also the one who forced her to undergo IVF 99 times.
“You even told me that the person you loved was me. You were going to divorce her and marry me instead

Damien delivered a powerful slap across Serena’s face. “Shut up! I don’t love you! The person I love is
Avery!”
