Avery couldn’t take it any longer. She didn’t hesitate for even a second before slapping Serena hard across the face. “You’re the one who’s slandering me, Serena!”
Serena held her face. She sounded incredibly upset when she asked, “Did you let your anger get to your
head, Avery?”
Avery barked out a laugh. “You should know better than anyone else whether I let my anger get the better of me, or you’re the one who’s feeling guilty.”
Serena’s expression didn’t crack when she said, “I’m not lying, Mr. Whitlow Senior. Avery fooled around with Julian behind Damien’s back, and she even got pregnant with his child! Damien is soft-hearted, so he forgave Avery and asked her to abort the child. However, she refused.
“She insisted that she wanted a divorce, so she could get together with Julian. That’s the real reason behind Damien and Avery’s argument!”
Serena’s words were logical and made sense, stunning the guests and prompting them to launch into
discussions with each other.
“My god. Avery’s so shameless. She had to drug Damien to marry into the Whitlow family in the first place, and now, she seduced Julian and even got knocked up by him!”
“But Damien doesn’t seem like the type of man who would suppress his anger. If Avery really did such a
thing, he might get angry enough to kill her.”
“You’re right. After all, no man would accept his wife cheating on him. Especially when the man she
cheated on him with is his sworn enemy.”
Eldon’s expression twisted upon hearing the guests’ words. A family’s dirty laundry should remain a private affair. No matter who was lying, it was imperative that word of this incident didn’t leak to the general public. Whitlow Corporation’s stock value would certainly be affected if that were to happen.
He used the excuse that he was feeling unwell to end the banquet. The guests were also smart enough to
know that it was their cue to leave. They rose to their feet and bid their farewells.
“The incident that occurred earlier was caused by immature youngsters who were just fooling around. I hope that everyone will keep their lips sealed once you leave the Whitlow residence. Do not breathe even a word of this to the outside world.”
The Whitlow family had only risen to such a prestigious position of power thanks to Eldon’s ruthless methods. Since he had already made himself clear, no one dared to go against him.
Eldon also had the housekeeper lead Serena away once all the guests had left.
Realizing that something was amiss, Serena asked, “What are you doing, Mr. Whitlow Senior?”
Eldon spoke in a knowing voice. “You’re too immature. You have no idea what you should or shouldn’t

say. I’m going to get someone to teach you, so that you don’t make an even bigger mistake in the future.”
Serena inhaled sharply. “I spoke nothing but the truth. I wasn’t lying!”
She grabbed Damien’s hand when she was about to be taken away by the bodyguards. “Save me, Damien! Considering how I saved you in the past, please help me talk some sense into Mr. Whitlow Senior!”
Damien frowned deeply. “Grandpa…”
Avery let out a mocking laugh. “I almost forgot to tell you, Damien. The one who saved you in Pulgido was
me, not Serena.”
“Avery!” Serena shrieked, her face turning a ruddy red. “I know that you hate me, but you mustn’t lie!”
Damien was stunned. “She’s right, Avery. Besides, you don’t know how to dive.”
They had gone to Nalean for their honeymoon after they got married. Avery never even dipped a single
foot into the ocean during the entire trip.
Avery could tell what Damien was thinking about. She scoffed, saying, “Who told you that I don’t know how to dive? I didn’t enter the ocean during our Nalean trip because my lungs were severely damaged
after I saved you. They wouldn’t be able to withstand the ocean pressure.”
“You’re lying!” Serena screamed. “I was the one who told you that my lungs were damaged after I saved
Damien-”
Avery interrupted her before she could finish her sentence. “You know better than anyone else that I’m not lying. I know that it’s difficult for you to investigate the truth, since so much time has passed since the
incident, Damien.
“But you just have to check whether Serena’s lungs have suffered any damage before to know whether I’m lying.”
