Chapter 19
Damien sent a message to Avery that night after he was done with work. “I finished work. Where are you? I’ll pick you up, then we can head back to the Whitlow residence together.”
A long time passed before he received a reply from Avery. “I’ll go back by myself.”
Damien frowned, wondering if she was still angry. He wanted to call her, but ultimately decided against it, worried that he would irritate her. Before he returned to the Whitlow residence, he stopped by a flower
shop and bought a bouquet of sunflowers.
They were Avery’s favorite flowers, and he hoped that her anger would melt away completely once he gave the bouquet to her.
The Whitlows were a prestigious family in Goldville. The Whitlow residence was located on the peak of Mt. Peacehaven. The grand hall had been decorated beautifully for the banquet tonight, and there were
white roses imported directly from Flaria placed in every corner of the hall.
The crust of Goldville’s upper class was gathered in the hall at this moment. They were dressed to the
nines and enjoying the refreshments served to them.
Since Eldon was planning to announce the successor of the Whitlow family tonight, he had also invited
many reporters to attend the banquet, prompting the guests to discuss among themselves.
“I heard that Damien’s assistant was in charge of the decorations. Apparently, they spent seven figures just on the roses!”
“I guess Avery finally managed to melt Damien’s ice-cold heart.”
“I heard that Avery had to undergo IVF 99 times before she successfully got pregnant. Eldon is probably going to announce that Damien will be the successor of the family business.”
Serena was sitting in a corner of the hall. Her eyes burned with jealousy as she listened to the guests chatter among themselves. She refused to let someone else have the man that she had set her eyes on.
She had learned that a man’s words couldn’t be trusted. It had only been five years, but Damien’s feelings had already changed. Fortunately, she still had a trick up her sleeve. Avery was pregnant with Julian’s child. She didn’t want to think about what would happen if the child were Damien’s.
A mocking smile tugged at Serena’s lips. Damien was a fool for thinking that he could just toss her aside so easily and be with Avery instead.
“Damien’s here!” someone shouted suddenly.
Serena looked up and immediately spotted Damien, who was surrounded by a large crowd. It didn’t take long for him to notice her. His expression turned icy as he strode toward her, saying, “You’re not welcome
here. Please leave now.”
Avery would certainly get angry if she saw Serena when she arrived.

Serena knew exactly what Damien was thinking. “My parents have prepared a gift for Avery. I’ll leave after
I give it to her.”
Naturally, Damien didn’t believe her. “Give it to me. I’ll hand it to Avery later.”
“My parents told me that I have to personally give the gift to Avery,” Serena said, shaking her head.
Damien’s eyes were cold as he warned, “You better not try any funny business in front of me, Serena. If you do-”
He wasn’t able to finish his sentence before Eldon’s voice resounded from behind them. “Damien, why
didn’t Avery come back with you?”
Damien shot a warning look at Serena before he turned around. “I came here directly from the company.
I’m sure that Avery will be here soon.”
“How could you let her come by herself when she’s pregnant?” Eldon berated. “Call her now and ask
where she is, and whether she needs us to pick her up.”
“Okay, Grandpa. I’ll call her right now,” Damien answered with a nod.
He pulled out his phone and was just about to dial Avery’s number when Serena suddenly spoke up. “No
need to call her, Damien. She’s here.”
Damien looked toward the entrance of the hall and saw Avery’s gorgeous figure. She was wearing a white
dress and had some light makeup on. She was breathtakingly beautiful.
His heart skipped a beat. He didn’t realize that he was smiling as he walked over to her.
