Chapter 18
An hour later, Avery and Julian had their marriage certificate in hand.
Julian held out a black card. “This is all my savings. If you ever need to spend on anything, just use this. The PIN is your birthday.”
“I don’t need it,” Avery said, shaking her head. “I have my own money.”
Julian tucked the card into her hand anyway. “You’re my wife now. It’s on me to take care of you.”
His gaze dipped to her still-flat belly, and a quiet smile tugged at his mouth. “And not just you. I’ll take care of our baby, too.”
“I didn’t marry you for your money,” she said, frowning.
After marrying Damien, Avery had quit her job at his insistence and run the household.
But before Catherine passed, she had transferred her shares in the Langford Group to Avery, and the annual dividends alone were no small change.
Avery studied animation in university and kept up a webcomic on her own platform, where she built a large following and had steady earnings.
The bottom line was that she didn’t need a man to bankroll her.

Still, Julian pressed the card into her hand. “Remember, this isn’t for safekeeping. It’s for spending,” he
said seriously. “Men make money for their wives and kids. If you don’t spend my money, I won’t sleep well.
Avery couldn’t help but laugh. “Where did you pick all this up?”
“Online,” he said with a grin.
Just then, Avery’s phone rang. On the screen, the caller ID flashed “Eldon”.
“Want me to step out?” Julian asked,
“No need,” she replied.
With that, she answered the phone.
“Avery,” Eldon said with warm with a smile she could hear, “today is your fifth anniversary with Damien. Remember to come back for dinner.”
“Of course. I’ll be there,” she replied.
“Alright. Is Damien with you? Put him on. I need a word.”
“We aren’t together,” Avery answered quickly. “You can call him directly.”

“Oh, alright.” Eldon didn’t press. “You’re pregnant, so try not to drive yourself. Come back with Damien
tonight.”
“Thank you for the reminder,” she said lightly. “I’ll be careful.”
When the line clicked off, she let out the breath she had been holding.
In just a few hours, she would walk into the Whitlow residence with a brand-new status. Her nerves
fluttered.
Julian was just about to comfort her when his phone rang. Eldon was calling again.
“Julian, it’s Damien and Avery’s anniversary. I let it slide when you skipped in the previous years, but
tonight, you must come back. I have something important to announce.”
Catching Avery’s worried look, Julian chuckled softly. “Grandpa, I’m already back. I’ll be there on time.”
“When did you come back?” Eldon asked, surprised.
“Last night,” Julian replied. “Grandpa, I’m tied up for the moment. Let us talk tonight.”
“You brat.” Eldon huffed, amused. “You’re hiding something from me…”
“I am,” Julian said. “You’ll see when I get there.”
The other end fell silent for a beat, then Eldon said, “Don’t tell me you’re finally bringing your girlfriend
home. You’re not getting any younger. It’s about time you got married.”
Julian’s smile deepened. “Grandpa, I’m already married. I’ll bring her home tonight.”
