Chapter 86
Justin glanced at the coffee, swallowing the words he had almost said.
It suddenly hit Nadine, and she sneered. “Do you think it’s not as good as the one Elena makes?”
If he thought it tasted bad, he could have just said it. Why must he try to hide it instead?
Justin didn’t answer her and simply let out a soft sigh.
Nadine held back her anger as she said, “Jus, I often made you coffee at home before you went off to college. You said it tasted great every time back then and that you loved the coffee I made the most. Why
⚫ do you feel it’s not good anymore now?”
“I didn’t mean that, Nadi,” said Justin.
“What do you mean, then? You said Elena can’t even compare to me, yet you’re thinking that she’s great now that she’s gone. Don’t you forget that you only told Elena you liked her because we had a spat back
then! Nadine barked.
Justin fell silent, his expression stiffening.
Nadine glimpsed the sheepish flicker in his eyes, and her face turned ashen. She walked up to Justin,
grabbing his arms as she locked her gaze on him.
“What’s the matter? Was I wrong? Did you pursue her because you’d fallen for her? Didn’t you do it to piss
me off?” she asked.
“Nadi!” Justin said curtly, “That happened years ago. What’s the point of dwelling on this right now?”
“But-”
“Am I not good to you?” Justin looked at her, his expression wounded. “I married you to help you escape that abusive ex-husband of yours. To fulfill your dream of having a child of our own, I proposed to Lena and went through so much trouble to get a fake marriage certificate for her. Nadi, why would I go to such
lengths if I didn’t care for you?”
Nadine’s attitude immediately softened. It would be heartless of her if she denied that Justin had done so
much for her, but she couldn’t stand that he still thought of Elena the way he used to think of her when
she had been abroad.
She thought to herself that she should just forget it. That man would help her get rid of Elena anyway, so she forced herself to calm down.
Once Elena was dead, it wouldn’t matter anymore even if Justin was still hung up on her.
“I’m sorry, Jus,” said Nadine, looking wronged and pitiful. “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have made you annoyed at a time like this. But you should know that I’ll always be right by your side.”
Justin’s gaze softened as he looked at her. “You’re the most thoughtful person, my dear Nadi.” He held

her hand and continued, “Come with me to Hupolis in two weeks’ time.”
“Hupolis? For what?” Nadine was confused.
2/2
“An old friend of my father’s called me this morning. He said he’s going to be celebrating his 66th birthday soon, so he wants to have a grand party and invited me. Also, there’s a business opportunity over there, so it’s a perfect chance for me to go and discuss it myself,” Justin explained.
“Oh, I see.” Nadine nodded.
“It’s perfect timing. You can take me to visit Mrs. Miller Senior after we arrive in Hupolis,” said Justin, looking at her.
Nadine’s mind went blank. She had forgotten about that.
“Well, Jus…”
“What’s the matter?” Justin frowned. “We can put the talks of the collaboration on hold and just pay her a visit. That should be fine, right? Didn’t you say Mrs. Miller Senior likes you very much?” Justin asked.
“Of course!” Nadine pulled herself together, doing her best not to let her guilt show. “I-I was just thinking about what to give her as a present.”
“Don’t worry. Leave it to me,” said Justin, surveying Nadine.
He thought about it and noticed that Nadine’s reaction had seemed quite off every time anything related to the Millers came up lately.
What exactly was up with Nadine? But Justin thought there was no need to think about that. He figured Nadine wouldn’t lie to him about something so important.
