Chapter 84
Just the thought of how Nadine had acted all warm and friendly with her on the surface when she had an ulterior motive deep down made Jane feel irritated. That was why Jane hadn’t bothered to be cordial and had instead told the bodyguards to make Nadine leave.
“So that’s how it was. I remember now. You actually told me about this before.”
Elena finally understood. But back then, Jane hadn’t mentioned the young lady’s name when she told her about this incident. Naturally, Elena wouldn’t have connected her to Nadine.
Looking back now, Nadine must have somehow recognized that Jane was the matriarch of the Miller family in Hupolis. That was why she had deliberately tried to curry favor with Jane.
Even though Nadine had ended up getting driven off, she had shamelessly bragged about it to Justin and
claimed that the matriarch of the Miller family had adored her.
“How ridiculous,” she said.
Jane suddenly asked, “Lena, why did you suddenly bring Nadine up? Wait a minute, her surname is Riggs…”
Wasn’t the young man who tricked Elena into going to Slushire also from the same family?
Elena brushed it off with a smile. “It’s nothing, Grandma. I just asked casually. Anyway, it’s getting late. You should go to bed. Don’t you remember the doctor telling you to keep early hours?”
“Hmph, my body’s still strong and healthy…” Jane muttered as she returned to her bedroom.
A look of amusement appeared in Elena’s eyes as she watched Jane’s retreating figure.
In her bedroom, Elena noticed a new friend request on Facebook. It was from Zachary. She tapped lightly
on her phone, accepting the request.
She wanted to start a conversation afterward, but she didn’t know what to say as her fingers hovered over
the screen.
Zachary didn’t send her a message either.
Elena’s head ached from racking her brain, so she set her phone aside and threw herself on the soft bed.
Some things couldn’t be rushed. It was better to let things unfold naturally, step by step.
Alexander returned to the Golden residence in a hurry only to see Rachel sitting on the couch with reddened eyes. “Mom,” he greeted.
Rachel choked up with emotion. “Alexander, you’re back. Yvonne, she…”
“Mom, don’t panic just yet. Is the information you received reliable?” Alexander sat down beside her.
Rachel pulled out some tissues to wipe her tears. “I don’t know, but I’m unable to get in touch with her right now.”
Yvonne Campbell, the person whom she was referring to, was actually the doctor Rachel had mentioned to Alexander earlier. Yvonne had been Rachel’s dear friend for many years.
In the past few years, she had been traveling to many impoverished and war-torn countries to offer humanitarian medical aid.
That evening, Rachel received news that unrest had broken out in the area where Yvonne was currently volunteering. Although there had been times when Yvonne was unreachable, this time, Rachel couldn’t help but feel worried.
“I’ve already arranged for people to track her down on my way back.” As he spoke, Alexander held his phone and tapped continuously on the screen. “Don’t worry, Dr. Campbell will be fine.”
She had to be fine.
“Well, I tried to persuade her to not go to such dangerous places, but she just wouldn’t listen.” Rachel looked deeply grieved. “Forget it. She already told me long ago that she had noble ideals and beliefs back in her youth.”
At that moment, a burly young man hurried in. He was Leonard Ford, one of Alexander’s subordinates.
Leonard first greeted Rachel respectfully before leaning down to whisper something in Alexander’s ear.
Alexander’s expression tensed up instantly, and he let out a cold laugh. “How bold.”
Someone actually dared to blackmail the Golden family!
“Alexander, what’s wrong?” Rachel asked urgently, her voice trembling. “Did something happen to Yvonne?

Alexander replied in a low voice, “Mom, don’t worry. Dr. Campbell is safe for now, but I need to go there in
person.”
“What?” Rachel’s face went pale. She clutched his wrist in a hurry. “Alexander, if something were to
happen to you too…”
“Mom, I assure you that I won’t let anything bad happen to me.” Alexander tightened his grip on her hand.
She could only stare at him with reddened eyes. She knew that he was a dependable man. Once he made a promise, he would never break it.
Alexander declared, “I need to go and save Dr. Campbell right now. She must not suffer any harm!”
