Chapter 75

The window slowly rolled down. Sure enough, Alexander was sitting in the car.

At that moment, Alexander’s expression was slightly cold. It seemed as if he wasn’t too happy.

Zachary suddenly felt guilty as he subconsciously glanced at Elena, only to notice that she was also looking at Alexander.

Her eyes seemed to carry complicated emotions that Zachary couldn’t quite understand.

What exactly happened between the two of them during Alexander’s time in Slushire?

A stifling weight settled over Zachary’s heart.

“Get in the car,” Alexander said coldly.

He didn’t look at anyone when he said that, so it seemed like he was telling them both to get in.

“Alex, I…” Zachary desperately tried to explain, but with just one glance from Alexander, his words died on his lips..

“Mr. Zachary, you should go back with Mr. Alexander first,” Elena said. “I’ll have my driver come pick me

up.”

Before Zachary could speak, Alexander said coldly, “Ms. Miller, I’m not so lacking in manners that I’d leave you here alone.”

Elena was speechless.

That wasn’t what she had meant by it. She was just worried that the two cousins might need to talk and that she might inconvenience them by being around.

“Then, I’ll have to trouble you, Mr. Alexander,” Elena said.

She thought for a moment and decided to sit in the front passenger seat so Zachary could sit behind with

Alexander.

But before she could open the door, Alexander said to Zachary, “You sit in front.”

Zachary quietly went to sit in the front passenger seat, and Elena had no choice but to sit in the back.

Once they were both inside, Alfred started the car without a word.

Elena really wanted to steal a glance at Alexander, but she held back.

She kept feeling like he wasn’t very happy. But what exactly was he unhappy about?

Elena and Zachary were about to be engaged. They were getting along well, so shouldn’t Alexander be pleased?

This man was becoming stranger and stranger by the day.

“Go to Zachary’s apartment first,” Alexander instructed Alfred.

When Zachary was painting, he preferred the quiet. Sometimes, he would paint for the entire day, forgetting anything else.

So, to prevent any accidents, he had bought an apartment, living there alone most of the time.

“Alex, I’m fine,” Zachary quickly said, “You can send Ms. Miller home first.”

“Mr. Zachary, your place is closer,” the clueless Alfred explained logically.

Zachary pursed his lips and wanted to say more, but when he saw Alexander’s icy expression in the rearview mirror, he had no choice but to swallow his words.

“How are the preparations for your exhibition going?” Alexander suddenly asked.

Zachary replied honestly, “They’re going well.”

Alexander said evenly, “I see. No wonder you’re so free tonight.”

Zachary didn’t know how to respond to that, so he fell silent.

In no time, the car stopped in front of Zachary’s apartment.

Zachary said, “Alex, I’ll head up first. Ms. Miller, goodbye.”

“Goodbye, Mr. Zachary,” Elena replied politely.

Zachary got out, and the car quickly drove off. But he didn’t go upstairs immediately. Instead, he merely stood there with a stiff expression.

Was it really going to continue like this? Was he really going to keep hiding the truth from Elena?

This lie was something that could be exposed with the slightest poke.

Even if he managed to conceal it forever, even if he could pursue Elena this way, could feelings obtained through deception really last?

Zachary’s eyes reddened.

The moment Zachary got out of the car, the atmosphere inside turned odd.

Elena felt an overwhelming pressure emanating from Alexander. It made her want to shrink back until she got home.

Suddenly, Alexander asked, “Did you enjoy yourself at the welcome party?”
