Chapter 73
Elena expressed her thanks and took the cake knife. As soon as she sliced into the cake, the crowd broke into cheers. The lively atmosphere brought a brighter smile to Elena’s face.
Finally, she was back at Hupolis. She was back with her family and among her friends.
It felt wonderful.
After cutting up the cake, Elena first handed out the pieces to the children who were present.
Many of her friends were already married with kids, and they had brought the little ones along to join in
the celebration.
Most of the adults present weren’t that interested in cake, but the children were delighted.
It wasn’t like they ever lacked anything to eat in their daily lives. But eating cake together with their parents in such a lively setting still felt completely different.
One excited child accidentally bumped into a bouquet, making it tip over.
Zachary reacted instantly, steadying the vase before it could fall, and then smiled gently at the startled child. “It’s alright. No one’s hurt, so everything’s fine.”
“Thank you, mister,” the child said brightly.
Zachary chuckled and ruffled the child’s hair.
The welcome gathering carried on in a cheerful buzz. By the latter half, the crowd had grown tired, and
people broke off into small groups to chat.
Camila had drunk a little too much and was attempting to tell jokes. But she started laughing hard at
herself before she even landed some of her jokes.
Elena sat on a sofa by the railing, gazing at the city lights while the evening breeze lifted strands of her
hair.
At that moment, a man said gently, “Ms. Miller.”
Camila turned to see Zachary standing by the side. “Mr. Golden.”
She got up from the sofa and accepted the gift that Zachary was holding out. “This is something I
prepared for you.”
Since everyone who attended had brought her gifts, Elena thought nothing of it. She took the bag with a
polite smile. “Thank you, Mr. Golden.”
After she accepted the gift, Zachary didn’t seem to have any intention of leaving. Instead, he looked at her with a mix of emotions. “Ms. Miller, I…”

Before he could finish, Camila stumbled over, laughing and draping an arm around Elena’s shoulder. She glared at Zachary, “What are you trying to do? Let me tell you, even if you’re supposed to be her future fiance, the two of you aren’t married yet! Lena’s still mine!”
Elena said helplessly, “Camila, you’ve had too much to drink. Mr. Golden, please don’t mind her.”
Elena was preoccupied with steadying Camila, so she didn’t notice how stiff Zachary’s expression had become. “Her future fiance?”
“Of course! Isn’t your family planning a marriage alliance with the Miller family? Don’t tell me you don’t know,” Camila slurred.
Zachary’s expression stiffened. “I know about it, but…”
“I can’t… I think I’m going to throw up!” Camila exclaimed.
Elena panicked and hurriedly supported Camila toward the restroom.
Zachary stood frozen. His fingers curled slightly as he watched Elena’s retreating figure.
They must have misunderstood. They thought Elena’s arranged match was with him.
And truth be told, he wished that it was true. When he first heard his family was considering an alliance with the Miller family, he had been thrilled.
After all, Elena was their only daughter. If there was to be an engagement, surely it would be with her.
