Chapter 60
However, this time, Alexander didn’t raise his glass. He didn’t even glance at Clara as he said coolly,” Sorry, I haven’t been feeling well lately, so I can’t drink.”
Clara froze and looked helplessly at Edward. She could tell that Alexander was rejecting her.
Edward’s smile stiffened as he said cautiously, “Mr. Golden, I forgot to introduce you. This is my daughter, Clara. She just graduated from university this year. She’s always admired you, and when she heard that I invited you to dinner today, she begged me to bring her along to meet you.”
Alexander said nothing in response.
Clara’s eyes reddened as she looked at Edward anxiously.
It would be a dream for Edward to become Alexander’s father-in-law, so he decided to take a gamble.
Gritting his teeth, he continued, “I heard that you still don’t have a girlfriend, Mr. Golden. If you find my daughter favorable…”
Alexander finally spoke. “Mr. Jones, I’m not single.”
Edward’s expression immediately changed.
That wasn’t right. He had clearly heard that Alexander had never been in a relationship before. In fact, there had never been any hint of romance with any woman.
So why was Alexander saying that he wasn’t single?
No matter what, since Alexander had said that, there was no way Edward could keep pushing Clara ont
him. He was filled with regret.
At that moment, Alexander saw that Rachel had sent him a message.
Opening the chat, he saw that she had sent him a screenshot. When he saw the picture, his gaze
darkened considerably.
Just then, he got another message from Rachel. “Lena seems to be in trouble. Why aren’t you going ove
to help her?”
Alexander pocketed his phone and immediately stood up. “Mr. Jones, I’m sorry. Something urgent cam
up, so I have to take my leave.”
“What? Mr. Golden, is it that urgent? I-I’ll send you…” Edward stammered.
But before he could do anything else, Alexander rushed out of the private room.
Edward wanted to hurry after him, but when he heard Clara sobbing beside him, he stopped and sighe He consoled her, saying, “Don’t cry. I’ll find someone even better for you.”
The crystal chandelier lights in the hallway dazzled Alexander’s eyes. His phone buzzed in his pock
Rachel had sent him Elena’s location.
He didn’t even bother to get in his car. When he pushed past the revolving door, the night wind hit his face, but all he could feel was a burning in his chest.
“Haven’t I made myself clear enough? Let go and move aside!” Elena’s expression was resolute, but Justin still stood firmly in her way.
He said, “I won’t allow you to keep up this charade, Lena. I must take you home tonight.”
His fingertips were digging into her wrist, and Elena’s face blanched from the pain. Despite that, she refused to show any weakness. “Mr. Riggs, if you keep this up, I’ll call the police.”
“Lena!” Justin’s tone suddenly softened, carrying a trace of panic even he didn’t notice. “I just want to talk to you. Let’s go home and talk things through properly, alright?”
Just then, a figure suddenly stepped between the two.
“Let her go.” The newcomer’s voice was icy.
Justin’s eyes widened.
It was Alexander again.
Justin’s gaze burned with anger. “Mr. Golden, this is a private matter between me and my girlfriend. You keep interfering in our affairs time and again. What exactly do you want?”
“Ex-girlfriend,” Elena corrected coldly. She quickly took a step back, and while Justin’s attention was on Alexander, she finally pulled her wrist free from his grip.
