Chapter 57

“Jus, let’s continue from where we left off just now…” Nadine said.

Meanwhile, as Elena walked out of Riggs Group’s headquarters, she took a deep breath. It felt as if even the air had become fresher.

The day after tomorrow would be the 15th, which was the day she would be returning to Hupolis.

The thought of going back to Hupolis made her think of Alexander again. In the past few days, she hadn’t contacted him at all, but she was supposed to fly back to Hupolis on his private jet.

She wanted to keep her distance from him, but they had already agreed on this. It would be impolite of her to suddenly go back on her word now.

Elena kept telling herself it wasn’t a big deal. Even without the engagement talk, the Millers and the Goldens still had plenty of business dealings ahead. Since Alexander was also returning to Hupolis on the same day, wasn’t it perfectly normal for her to share a flight with him?

That was what she had thought at the start, but now, something had shifted ever so slightly in her mind. She couldn’t quite grasp what was different.

Suddenly, her phone rang, cutting her off from her thoughts.

It was a call from Jared, so Elena answered. “Mr. Pittman.”

“Lena, have you already resigned?” Jared asked cheerfully.

“Yes, it’s all settled.” Elena sounded like she was incredibly relieved.

“That’s great!” Jared clapped. “You’re the heiress of the Miller family, yet you lowered yourself to work as a secretary. The worst thing is that brat… Well, whatever. It’s all over now! I’m having a gathering tonight. Do you want to join us? Just think of it as celebrating your freedom!”

Elena thought for a moment. “Alright.”

She was in a good mood today, and going out for a bit would be nice. Besides, if Jared was inviting her, then it was probably a proper event.

“Then I’ll pick you up tonight,” Jared said.

That evening, Jared came to her house and drove her to an upscale club.

The gathering with his friend was in a VIP suite on the top floor. As soon as they entered, the others stood

up to greet him.

“Mr. Pittman, you’re here.”

“Jared, we’ve been waiting for you.”

“And this is?”

Just as Jared was about to introduce Elena, someone suddenly froze at the sight of her and blurted out in surprise, “Elena? What are you doing here? Where’s Justin? Didn’t he come with you?”

Elena frowned slightly, not expecting to meet one of Justin’s friends here.

The person who had spoken was Michael Cooper, a close friend of Justen’s.

By coincidence, one of Michael’s friends had some business dealings with Miller Group’s branch company. He had been invited to this gathering, and Michael had just tagged along.

Jared seemed displeased. “Who’s that Justin you’re talking about? Elena’s still single, so don’t make it sound like she’s not!”

Michael shrank back a little, mostly from the surprise.

He knew Jared was the CEO of Miller Group’s branch company, but he had no clue that Jared was related

to Elena.

He had never heard Justin mention anything like that before.

Could it be that even Justin didn’t know about it?

“It’s fine, Mr. Pittman.” Elena smiled at Jared and then said to Michael, “Mr. Cooper, I’ve already broken up with Justin, so he’s got nothing to do with me anymore.”

“What?” Michael blurted out. That shocked him even more.

All of Justin’s close friends knew how deeply Elena loved him and how much she had sacrificed for him. And yet she had actually broken up with him?
