Chapter 56
Elena didn’t want to waste any more time on Justin.
Just as she turned to leave, Justin suddenly said, “I guess this is fine. You should get some rest. We’ll soon be busy working on our collaboration with the Miller family of Hupolis. You wouldn’t be of much help there anyway. We’ll still need to rely on Nadi.”
Elena froze midstep. Then, she said with biting sarcasm, “Yes, you’re right, Mr. Riggs. Ms. Riggs is really impressive to be able to establish ties with the Miller family of Hupolis.”
“Of course.” Justin’s voice sounded stiff.
He had brought that up just to try and get under Elena’s skin. Not only had Elena stopped coming home, but she had even dared to resign. Justin needed to make Elena understand that she wasn’t as important
as she thought.
It still wasn’t too late for Elena to express her regret.
But why did Justin feel like there was something strange about her tone?
Elena turned back with a faint smile. “Then you’d better hold on tightly to Ms. Riggs. After all, she’ll be of
great help to you.”
Without waiting for a response, she turned around and walked away.
As Justin stared at her retreating figure, he felt a hollow void that he had never felt before. It felt as
though, once Elena walked away this time, she was never coming back.
That was impossible.
Elena was probably just trying to scare him with the resignation letter because she wanted a break. Justin
refused to believe that she would leave him.
But despite that thought, Justin’s mind was still in turmoil.
When he returned to the lounge, he noticed that Nadine looked unusually tense. But he was in no mood to
figure out why. He sat down on the bed, replaying the image of Elena’s departing figure in his mind
endlessly.
For once, Nadine didn’t immediately cling to him. She waited for a while before calling out to him.
“Jus.”
That snapped Justin out of his stupor.
He took a deep breath and turned to look at her. “Nadi, try and get in touch with the Miller family soon.”
Nadine’s expression changed instantly. “Soon? Jus, is it urgent?”
Justin nodded. “Yes, I want to start working with them as soon as possible.”
Noticing her hesitation, he frowned. “What’s wrong? Is there a problem?”
“I-I…” Nadine stammered. She nearly broke out in a sweat.
After a while, she managed to compose herself. “I just think that it’ll seem too forced if I contact them right away and immediately bring up business. They do like me, but I can’t make it obvious that I’m trying to gain something from the relationship, right?”
Justin mulled it over and nodded. “That makes sense.”
“So it can’t be rushed. Just give me some time, Jus.” Nadine leaned into him coyly.
“Alright,” Justin responded.
Nadine let out a small sigh of relief, but Justin suddenly added, “By the way…”
“Yes?” Nadine asked.
He asked, “Since you’re familiar with the Miller family, have you ever met their heiress?”
Nadine tensed up again. “No. She didn’t travel abroad with them back then, so I didn’t see her.”
Justin nodded and didn’t press further.
But Nadine sensed that something was off, so she asked unhappily, “Why are you suddenly asking about
her?”
“I’m just curious. She’s never appeared in public before.” Justin chuckled and tapped her nose. “What? Are you jealous about that too?”
“If she doesn’t dare to show herself in public, it must mean she’s ugly!” Nadine snapped bitterly. Justin smiled. “Yes, yes. My Nadi is the prettiest.”
