Chapter 53
How much damage would that do to the Riggs family’s reputation if word got out?
Nadine glanced at Justin and suddenly smirked.
Justin wasn’t just her brother; they were bound together by marriage.
Back at home, Josephine served Nadine some cakes before busying herself by making the latter’s favorite dishes.
But Nadine didn’t have much of an appetite and listlessly returned to her room after taking a bite.
Justin followed right after.
“Jus!” Nadine threw herself into his arms and tiptoed to kiss him. Yet, Justin turned his face to the side.
Nadine’s expression changed. “Are you disgusted with me? Do you think I’m filthy because I’ve been in a holding cell? Do you not want me anymore?”
Justin frowned. “That’s not it. Nadi, let go first.”
Nadine clung to him even tighter. “I won’t! Jus, you’re acting very strange. Do you not love me anymore? I’m your wife…”
Justin stayed silent for a while before he finally said, “Nadi, I’ve actually been wanting to discuss something with you.”
“What is it?” Nadine looked up at him.
Justin said gently, “Since you came back, your ex-husband hasn’t been bothering you anymore, has he? I think it’s time we handled the divorce paperwork.”
Nadine’s expression changed dramatically. Even though Justin had mentioned divorce before, she had always assumed that he didn’t truly mean it. She had never thought he would actually follow through.
But now, Justin had even brought up getting the divorce paperwork done.
Nadine stammered out, “Y-you want to divorce me?”
Justin furrowed his brows. “I only registered the marriage with you to help you cut ties with your ex. I figured he wouldn’t pester you once he found out that you’re married.
“He seems to have backed off in the past two years. And now that you’re back, it’s even more unlikely that
he’d trouble you.”
He added, “So, there’s no real need for us to be married anymore.”
Nadine stared at him and sneered. “You want a divorce because of Elena, don’t you?”
Justin didn’t deny it. “Lena was always meant to be my wife. Once the divorce is finalized, I’ll find a way to
make my marriage to her official.”
Tears streamed down Nadine’s cheeks as she pounded Justin’s chest with her fists. “I gave so much for you, and you’re just going to throw me away?”
Nadine’s tears immediately made Justin’s heart soften. “No! Nadi, I’ll always take care of you. How could I ever abandon you?”
Nadine turned around and reached for a pair of scissors on her desk. “I don’t care. I won’t agree to divorce you. If you force me, then I’ll just die!”
“Nadi, stop this nonsense!” Justin grabbed her arm. “Alright, let’s leave this matter for now. We’ll talk
about it another time.”
Yet after he said that, Justin felt a void in his heart, and panic surged through him.
Elena had barely spoken to him in the past few days.
But she had never once mentioned a divorce-and that convinced him that she didn’t really want to leave him. After all, she didn’t know that their marriage was fake. If she truly wanted out, she would have at
least brought up divorce.
Elena definitely still loved him.
The more Justin thought about it, the more determined he was to turn his and Elena’s marriage into a real
one.
But with Nadine causing a scene like this, he was left at a loss…
