Chapter 51

“Alright.” Jared hurriedly hung up the call.

Elena lay back on the bed, and her stomach finally rumbled. She was so hungry.

Jared had hired a chef, Taylor Brooks, to work at the house, but the latter hadn’t prepared dinner in

advance that night.

Had Jared assumed that she would have dinner with Alexander? That was weird.

Alexander was strange as well. He clearly knew she was supposed to marry Zachary, yet he had still

invited her to a movie.

Elena felt like her head was a mess. She rolled around on the bed a few times, but it didn’t help.

Just then, the maid Jared had arranged to look after her, Donna Potts, knocked at the door. “Ms. Miller, would you like to come out for dinner?”

“I’m coming,” Elena replied.

Forget it; she would just have dinner first.

She left the bedroom and went to the dining table, where several of her favorite dishes were already laid

out.

She figured Taylor must have gotten to know her tastes from Jared. But looking at the plates, they didn’t seem like the usual ones that were used in the residence.

Elena casually asked, “Did we get a new set of tableware?”

“Y-yes, we did.” Donna forced out a smile. “Do you not like them?”

“That’s not it. I was just asking.” With that, Elena began eating.

Donna let out a discreet sigh of relief before quietly excusing herself so that Elena could eat in peace.

In the kitchen, Taylor was lounging on a chair, playing a game. Donna walked over and teased, “I guess you’ve got it easy tonight. You didn’t even need to cook anything.”

Taylor replied, “What are you talking about? It’s not like I didn’t want to work. Someone else just sent food

over.”

Donna muttered under her breath, “Mr. Golden is such an odd man. He went out of his way to send dinner here, but he still told us not to let Ms. Miller know that it came from him. And when I asked Mr. Pittman,

he even agreed.”

The chef replied, “Since they told us to keep quiet, we should just do it. What matters is that Ms. Miller enjoyed the food.”

मन्य

And Elena was definitely enjoying the food. Every dish seemed to suit her taste.

But she could tell that the food hadn’t been made by the chef Jared had hired. Thinking back on Donna’s strange behavior from earlier, Elena faintly guessed the truth.

Could tonight’s dinner have been sent by Alexander?

So he had seen right through her lie when she said she already had dinner.

Elena couldn’t quite understand the situation. Was this really just concern for his future cousin-in-law?

A thought suddenly popped into Elena’s mind, but she quickly shook her head.

It was just too absurd. How could someone like Alexander possibly harbor feelings for his cousin’s

fiancee?

She glanced at her chat with him on her phone. She thought of thanking him, but in the end, she locked the screen without saying anything.

Time slowly slipped by. For some, it passed by quickly. But for Nadine in the holding cell, every second seemed to drag on like a year.

At last, the day of her release arrived. Nadine’s legs trembled as she stepped out.

“Nadi!” Josephine called out. She had been waiting outside all along. The moment she saw Nadine, she rushed forward with reddened eyes.

“Mom,” Nadine called out pitifully as tears spilled down her face. “You have no idea what I went through

there…”

“There, there.” Josephine hugged Nadine tightly, feeling her heart ache. “You’re out now, and that’s what matters. But don’t be so impulsive anymore, okay?”

Nadine wiped her tears away, but when she saw Justin standing by the side, she broke down again. “Jus,

why didn’t you help me? Why didn’t you get me out sooner? Everyone in there bullied me. I can’t even

count how many times they beat me up!”
