Chapter 47
Camila chattered on for a long while before she realized that Elena had been silent on the other end the whole time. Then, she asked, “Lena, what’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing.” Elena snapped back to reality. “Let’s stop for now. I’ve got work this afternoon, and I need to grab some lunch first.”
Camila replied, “Alright then, I’ll be waiting for you to come back to Hupolis. Bye.”
After hanging up, Elena had a few bites and finished up her lunch.
She had to head to her client’s company for a meeting. In the car, she looked up Zachary’s name on her phone.
There was news about Zachary everywhere online. Even though he liked to keep a low profile, he couldn’t escape the weight of his reputation as a genius painter, especially since he had an exhibition coming up.
Elena found out that one of Zachary’s paintings had been auctioned abroad for several million dollars when he was 15 years old.
Many of his other works were also sought after by collectors worldwide. He was truly worthy of his title as a genius painter.
But Zachary didn’t put many of his works on sale.
There was even a rumor online that Zachary had one particular painting that he had kept in his private studio for many years, a piece that no one but him had seen. But no one knew whether that was true or
not.
Elena skimmed through the information before putting her phone away. It seemed like the marriage candidate Samuel had found for her was flawless. And yet, Elena couldn’t shake off that hollow feeling inside.
Whatever. Since she had promised Samuel, she would give it a try and see how things went with Zachary.
After the meeting, Elena worked for a few more hours. By the time she finished, night had already fallen.
She waited by the roadside for Jared’s driver to come and pick her up. She had said that she could just hail a cab, but Jared had insisted on sending someone, so she hadn’t refused.
As she stood there, staring at a pebble by her feet, she suddenly sensed a car pulling up in front of her. She looked up, thinking that it was Jared’s driver. Yet, the moment she did, she frowned.
This car was all too familiar to her. It was Justin’s car.
The rear passenger window rolled down, and sure enough, Justin was inside.
“Get in,” Justin said in a commanding tone, not even looking at her.
Elena didn’t get in and instead took two steps back. “No need to trouble yourself, Mr. Riggs.”
Justin said with a grim expression, “Lena, you haven’t been home these past few days. I came all the way here just to pick you up, so must you act like this? My mom misses you. She told me to bring you home tonight. She’s even made all your favorite dishes-”
“Mr. Riggs, that’s your home,” Elena cut him off. “Not mine.”
Justin’s eyes widened. “You-”
Right at that moment, another car drove up and stopped in front of Justin’s. The door opened, and a tall, slender figure stepped out.
