Chapter 43

The only reason Elena was still with Riggs Group was for that project, not to continue serving as Justin’s

secretary.

Justin waited, but Elena never came. So, he got up, walked out of the office, and stopped at her desk. He looked upset when he tapped his knuckles on the table.

“Ms. Miller, I need you in my office,” he ordered.

She frowned and lifted her head to look at him.

It had only been a few days since he last saw her, but his heart skipped a few beats now that her pretty face was right in front of him.

“Mr. Riggs, what’s the matter?”

His voice dropped low as he said, “Stop this. Everyone’s watching. Do you really want to be the subject of their gossip?”

Elena said nothing. Things like that wouldn’t happen if he kept his distance from her.

Not wanting to make an ugly scene in front of her colleagues, she eventually stood up and followed him

back inside.

The moment they entered, he reached out and tried to take her hand. She avoided his hand without any

hesitation and said coldly, “Mr. Riggs, this is not appropriate.”

“Lena, it’s been so many days. Are you going to keep this up?”

Justin looked at her, displeased. Over the past few days, he had been waiting for her to find him and to

make but she never did.

up,

She clearly pressed charges on Nadine because she was jealous, but now she was acting like she didn’t

care. It was maddening…

“Mr. Riggs, I’ll listen if this is about work. If not, I’ll be leaving.”

She turned to go, but Justin suddenly spoke.

“I tried to have someone bail Nadi out, but it didn’t work. Lena, what’s going on?” he asked.

Her hand froze on the door handle. She turned back, surprised.

“Are you saying Nadine’s still in the holding cell?”

“Yes,” he replied, his face darkening. “She’ll be detained for at least 15 days.”

Elena hadn’t expected Nadine to be locked up that long. She thought Justin would surely find a way to get her out by now.

In fact, he had tried everything, but to no avail. It was as if someone had been stopping him from the

shadows.

Seeing the surprise on Elena’s face, he asked, “You didn’t know?”

“I have no interest in keeping up with her,” she simply said.

All she wanted was to leave a police record of Nadine’s malicious attack. She knew this alone couldn’t truly make Nadine pay, so she hadn’t bothered to follow what came after.

Justin snorted and laughed. “To go against me and interfere with this, who do you think it could be, Lena?”

At once, Alexander’s face flashed in her mind.

Jared could have done it too, but if he had, he would have told her. Since he hadn’t, could it really be Alexander? Was he doing this to vent her anger for her?

Watching her sink into silence and lose herself in thought, Justin felt a surge of rage in his chest. He seized her wrist and slammed her against the wall.

“Justin, what are you doing? This is an office!” she yelled.

“Lena, what were you just thinking?” His eyes burned with fury, seemingly accusing her of letting her mind drift. “Were you thinking of another man in front of me? Huh?”

Elena let out a cold laugh and said, “Justin, don’t forget that we’ve already broken up. Whoever I think about at any time has nothing to do with you.”

“Broken up? Lena, these words hold no power over me. So, stop trying to use them as a weapon against

me.”
