Chapter 34

Seeing Elena fall silent, Jared decided not to press further.

Instead, he said, “Stay in the hospital for another couple of days for observation. Don’t worry, I’ll arrange for someone to take care of you.”

Just as he finished, Alexander walked in from the hallway.

“I’ve already arranged for someone to file charges against Nadine,” he said.

After a pause, he added, “But you need to be prepared. With the way things stand, she might only end up in custody for a few days.”

After all, Elena’s injuries weren’t considered severe. If the Riggs family pulled a few strings, Nadine might not even face detention.

But Alexander had no intention of letting them walk away without consequences.

“It’s fine,” Elena said with a faint smile.

She knew Nadine wouldn’t face real consequences this time.

What mattered was that this incident would leave a record behind. It was proof that Nadine harbored malicious intent toward her. One day, when she revealed the truth about the car accident, this might help.

Alexander studied her for a moment before nodding.

“I’ve arranged for a female nurse to help out. Stay in the hospital a couple more days for observation.

She’ll take care of you,” he said.

Elena couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh.

Alexander and Jared had said almost the same thing.

She wasn’t seriously hurt. She could be discharged tomorrow and take care of herself.

But their concern and thoughtfulness filled her heart with warmth.

Jared smiled knowingly and said, “Well, since Mr. Golden is already taking care of things, I don’t have to

worry anymore.”

Before Elena could reply, he let out a yawn. “Age is catching up to me. I can’t stay up too late. Lena, I’ll

head to the hotel nearby and rest. I’ll come see you again in the morning.”

“Alright, Mr. Pittman. Take care on your way out,” Elena replied.

Once Jared had left, the hospital room grew quiet, leaving only Elena and Alexander inside. Perhaps because they had already been through a lot together, she didn’t feel awkward around him.

Still, guilt weighed on her. It was so late, yet Jared had called him over, and Alexander ended up handling

everything for her. She owed him more and more favors, and she had no idea when she would ever be able to repay him.

“Don’t overthink it,” Alexander said suddenly, as though reading her thoughts.

“For me, this is nothing, just a small effort. Besides, that night, you helped me a great deal too.”

As he spoke, he poured a glass of water and handed it to her.

“Thank you,” Elena said, taking it and drinking it down in a few gulps.

She had been thirsty for a while.

Alexander glanced at the watch on his wrist. “The nurse will be here soon. I’ll wait until she arrives before

I leave.”

Under the glow of the light, the sharp lines of his face seemed a little softer.

Elena looked at him and suddenly said, “Mr. Golden, you really are a good man.”

Alexander lifted his gaze to her.

Realizing how strange her words sounded, Elena hurried to explain. “I didn’t mean anything else. I just think… You’re really kind. You’ve helped me so much. Even when Mr. Pittman called you over so late, you were patient with me and still took care of everything. And…”.

To her, he almost seemed gentle.

But she didn’t know if she should say that aloud. It might have just been her imagination. After all, Alexander always carried an aura that felt distant and cold.

He stayed quiet for a moment before speaking. “I’m not really the kind of good man you think I am.” “What do you mean?” Elena blinked in surprise.
