Chapter 31

Elena was completely confused.

She wondered why Jared had mentioned her accident to Alexander. She figured he must have seen the gossip in the news and misunderstood the nature of their relationship.

“Are you okay?” Alexander asked.

“…”

Before Elena could respond, Justin stood up and placed himself between her and Alexander.

“Thank you for your concern, Mr. Golden,” Justin said with a forced smile, his tone icy. “My wife is fine.”

Alexander’s cold gaze landed on Justin, his eyes narrowing in irritation, as if Justin were an annoying fly buzzing around his head.

“Your wife?” he asked coldly.

“Yes, Mr. Golden, I’m sure you didn’t know. Lena isn’t just my secretary, she’s also my…” Justin said with a

smirk.

“Justin!” Elena snapped, her anger rising. “I’ve already told you, we’re breaking up!”

She couldn’t stand Justin pretending in front of others that she was his “wife,” no matter who they were.

“Lena, you’re making a scene again,” Justin said with exasperation, rubbing his temples.

“Sorry, Mr. Golden. Lena and I have been going through a bit of disagreement lately, so she…”

“Mr. Riggs, I came here to check on Ms. Miller, not you,” Alexander interrupted, his voice firm.

“But I’m Lena’s husband,” Justin smirked, his voice laced with provocation.

“A married couple is united, Mr. Golden. Surely you’ve heard of that?”

It was clear to Justin now that Alexander was interested in Elena.

He thought, “This bastard! How dare he show interest in my woman?”

“Justin, stop talking nonsense…”

Elena was seething with anger. She stood up, trying to push Justin away, but in her haste, a wave of dizziness hit her, causing her to lose her balance and stumble backward.

Alexander’s eyes widened in alarm. He shoved Justin aside and quickly reached out, catching Elena by the arm to steady her.

“Are you okay?” His voice was laced with genuine concern.

Justin, pushed aside, felt his temper flare up instantly. Just as he was about to lash out, a middle-aged

man’s voice cut through the tension. “Lena, are you okay?”

The middle-aged man rushed over to the bed.

It was Jared.

After receiving Elena’s message, Jared had been frantic and immediately rushed over. But when he got another message from Elena, asking him not to tell Samuel or Jane to avoid worrying them, he hesitated.

Jared knew that Elena was the apple of Jane’s eye. As for Samuel, despite their strained relationship over the years, Elena was still his only daughter-the one he cherished above all. There was no way he

wouldn’t be concerned for her.

If he didn’t tell them, and they found out later, they would surely blame him. But Elena had specifically asked him not to, and if he ignored her request, she would likely hold it against him.

Caught in a dilemma, Jared suddenly recalled something. A few days ago, he had overheard Samuel talking about arranging a marriage alliance between Elena and Alexander.

So, that meant Alexander was Elena’s fiance.

Jared realized he could tell Alexander about the situation and ask him to come with him to see Elena.

After all, Elena had only asked him not to tell Samuel and Jane, but she hadn’t mentioned anything about

not informing Alexander.

If Samuel found out later and blamed him, Jared could just say he had informed Alexander instead. After all, Alexander was soon to be part of the Miller family as their son-in-law, so he wasn’t exactly hiding things from them.

With that thought in mind, Jared immediately called Alexander.

Alexander quickly confirmed he would head to the hospital right away.

After hanging up, Jared made his way to the hospital, too. However, Alexander was closer to the hospital,

so he arrived first.
