Chapter 24

Elena emphasized the word “divorce,” her tone dripping with sarcasm.

However, Justin didn’t notice at all because at that moment, he was completely consumed by shock that Elena had actually brought up the word “divorce” to him.

“Lena… What… What are you saying?” he stammered.

He couldn’t believe she was saying something like this. In his world, it was completely impossible.

Elena didn’t repeat herself, only looking at him calmly.

After a long moment, Justin finally regained some composure.

Rubbing his temples, he forced a bitter smile. “Lena, I understand you’re upset and might be throwing a tantrum, but saying something like this is too much. We’ve been together so long, finally got married, and

you can’t just throw the word ‘divorce’ around so lightly.”

Before Elena could respond, he continued, “I know I’ve wronged you recently, especially this morning, and

that was my fault.”

“You don’t need to say that,” Elena said with a cold smile. “I’ve made myself very clear. I want to separate from you.”

She hadn’t brought up breaking up earlier because she was still investigating the car accident. She didn’t

want to alert anyone.

But now, she had found no clues with Justin, and the key witness was already dead. She also realized that Justin seemed confident the truth about the accident years ago would never be uncovered, so even

if she suggested breaking up, he wouldn’t suspect a thing.

So, she felt she could tell him it was over.

After all, they had truly been together, so if they were going to break up, it needed to be said clearly and officially, leaving no room for future misunderstandings or complications.

Justin’s expression darkened. “Lena, don’t push this too far. I wanted to make it up to you tonight, but with you acting like this, how am I supposed to do that?

“Yes, I was wrong this morning, but if you think you can use divorce to manipulate me, you’re mistaken.”

“Justin.” Elena’s brow furrowed tightly.

“Do you even understand what I’m saying? I’m breaking up with you, divorcing you, cutting off all ties. Do you get it now?”

“Elena!” Justin’s anger flared.

“How long are you going to make a scene? I brought you here tonight to make it up to you, and you just…

don’t appreciate it?

“You’re not acting like yourself. Can’t you be reasonable like you used to be?”

She thought, “Like before… Just be a fool and let him manipulate me?”

“Ever since Nadi came back, I admit I’ve been ignoring your feelings, and that made you unhappy. But Nadi is my only sister.

“She’s been overseas for years, and now that she’s back, isn’t it only natural that I treat her a little better? Besides, while she was overseas, she had an abusive ex-husband, which left her with deep emotional scars,” Justin said, growing more self-righteous.

“Even if she wasn’t your real sister, couldn’t you have a little sympathy?”

He twisted every word, making it seem like everything was Elena’s fault.

Elena felt like laughing at his shamelessness.

She stayed silent, and Justin assumed she would relent. His tone softened as he said, “Alright, let’s not fight. Lena, I’ve even ordered flowers and some other gifts. They’ll be here soon.”

Elena suddenly said, “Nadine isn’t my real sister, and she isn’t yours either.”

Justin’s expression flickered with surprise for a moment, but he quickly recovered. “You’re right. Nadi and

I aren’t related by blood, but she grew up in our family, and to me, she’s like a real sister.”

Elena laughed out loud.

After secretly obtaining their marriage certificate, she couldn’t believe he still had the nerve to say that.

Her laughter made Justin’s expression even more awkward. He knew he had let himself get a little carried away these past few days, but he couldn’t help it.

After all, Nadine was finally back in the country, and being able to spend so much time with her genuinely made him happy.

Besides, in his eyes, Elena was easy to coax and manipulate.

He hadn’t expected Elena to get so angry that she actually threatened to divorce him. But it was fine-she was just saying it in anger.

At that moment, a waiter walked over carrying a large bouquet of flowers, “Mr. Riggs, the flowers you

ordered have arrived.”
