Chapter 18
Noah, the young man who had picked Alexander up from the restaurant, asked nervously, “Mr. Golden, what’s going on? Weren’t you supposed to pick up Ms. Miller? How come…”
Noah was one of Alexander’s most trusted aides. Calling Elena to the hospital today had been entirely his idea. He had sensed that Alexander treated her differently, so he had acted without permission.
Alexander hadn’t blamed him when he found out. He just gave him a cold glance before going to fetch Elena himself.
But now, seeing Alexander return with Elena in his arms and noticing the unusual expression on her face, Noah was taken aback.
Alexander gently set Elena on the edge of the bed, frowning as he looked at Noah and said, “Call the
doctor.”
“Understood.”
Noah pressed the call button beside him, but still feeling uneasy, he went out to find the doctor himself.
Showing discretion, the other aides didn’t enter, leaving only Alexander and Elena in the hospital room.
“Elena, look at me.”
Alexander stood before her. He leaned down, and his gaze locked on hers. “It’s me, Alexander. You’re
safe now.”.
Elena’s gaze was unfocused as she stared at him. “Alexander…”
“I’m here.”
Alexander reached out and gave her shoulder a light, reassuring pat. “You’re safe. Don’t be afraid. I’ve got
you.”
Elena closed her eyes, and two tears slid slowly down her pale cheeks. She was finally coming back to
herself. When she opened her eyes again, clarity had returned.
“Sorry, Mr. Golden. I lost my composure. Thank you for saving me just now. I owe you another favor,” she said, trying to stand.
Alexander gently pressed her shoulder down, signaling for her to remain seated.
“Rest for a while. You must have been very frightened just now,” he said.
Elena forced a wry smile. She had indeed been scared, but without the shadow of that car accident two years ago, she wouldn’t have reacted so dramatically.
Her gaze fell on her right leg. Alexander’s eyes followed, darkening slightly.

“Mr. Golden, the doctor’s here,” Noah said.
Even though Elena insisted she was fine, Alexander still had the doctor examine her.
The examination naturally showed no external injuries, but the doctor said Elena didn’t look well and
would need extra care and attention.
“Thank you. I understand,” Alexander said.
Noah’s face remained calm, but inside, he couldn’t help but marvel at Alexander’s composure and the way he cared for Elena.
It was the first time Noah had seen Alexander behave so attentively to a woman. No wonder he had
sensed that Alexander treated Elena differently.
After all, Alexander had called out her name in a dazed state last night. Once the doctor left, Noah also
excused himself, giving them privacy.
“I’m really fine, Mr. Golden,” Elena said with a helpless smile. “But how about you? Are you feeling okay?”
As soon as she spoke, the memory of Alexander holding her tightly last night suddenly flashed in her
mind.
Her brow twitched, and a wave of embarrassment rose from deep within.
She reminded herself silently that it was fine. Last night had been a special situation, and he had been drugged. There was no need to overthink it.
“I’m fine too,” Alexander replied.
Judging by how lively he looked now, Elena could tell he had fully recovered.
Elena nodded, thinking that they were done with that topic, but then she heard him speak again. “Last
night…”
