Chapter 16 

Noah felt a shiver run down his spine as he looked at the blood on Alexander’s lips and the pool on the 

floor. 

“I’ll take you to the hospital right away!” he said, supporting Alexander as they left. 

Elena stared at the bloodstain on the floor. Her eyes were wide with awe. Even under the influence of a drug, he had maintained such remarkable self-control, holding it in until he vomited blood. 

She thought, “Alexander… What kind of man is he?” 

Returning to the private room where they had been eating, Elena found it now under the control of numerous men in black suits. They were all clearly Alexander’s bodyguards. 

Joshua, Nathan, and the others sat inside. Their faces were filled with bewilderment. 

Spotting her, Joshua immediately called out, “Ms. Miller! Finally, you’re back. What… what happened here?” 

From Joshua’s perspective, it was indeed very strange. First, Alexander suddenly stood up in the middle of having his drink and walked away. Then Justin vomited violently, and after taking a phone call about an 

urgent matter, he hurried off too. 

The rest of them waited for a long time, but Alexander and Justin never returned. Instead, the bodyguards appeared and cleared the table of all food and drinks, even taking away the empty bottles, glasses, and 

plates. 

It was obvious that something had gone wrong. 

Since it involved Alexander, Elena didn’t elaborate. 

She simply offered a few brief words of reassurance before someone politely asked her to leave. They had clearly been instructed to encourage her to leave, so she would not get caught up in the mess. 

After saying goodbye to Joshua and the others, she left the restaurant. Outside, as she was about to hail a cab, she noticed Nadine had posted a new update on social media. She had shared two photos. 

One showed her wrist wrapped in thick bandages, and the other captured the side profile of a man slicing 

an apple for her. 

It was Justin, 

The caption read, “As long as you’re by my side, that’s enough.” 

The background in both photos made it obvious they were in a hospital. 

Elena understood immediately. 

No wonder Justin had vomited so violently and then abruptly left. It turned out that Nadine had staged a suicide attempt. 

Whatever happened between the two of them stirred no emotion in Elena. She took a cab home, 

showered, and planned to sleep soundly. 

Yet when she closed her eyes, Alexander’s restrained, controlled expression suddenly appeared in her mind. 

Beads of sweat dripped from him, one by one… 

She considered calling Noah to see how he was, but it didn’t feel right. 

She picked up her phone and checked Alexander’s Instagram, but there were no new posts. 

Since Noah had taken him to the hospital, he was probably fine. 

Still, she couldn’t shake the lingering sense of unease. After a long time, she finally drifted off into a restless sleep. 

Not long after waking up, Elena received a call from Noah. 

“Ms. Miller, could you come to the hospital for a moment?” 

Elena’s chest tightened. “Is Mr. Golden… okay?” 

Noah replied, “He’s fine. He just wants you to come by and check on him.” 

Elena agreed. 

Thinking about how Alexander had been targeted and drugged, she felt sorry for him. Besides, the last time she had been in pain and helpless from stomach cramps, he had helped her. Therefore, it only felt right to visit him at the hospital. 

However, she hadn’t expected to run into Justin and Nadine, who happened to be coming out just as she arrived at the hospital entrance. 

Justin looked pale, but he still carefully supported Nadine. His face was full of concern as he fussed over her. 

“Ms. Miller?” Nadine noticed her first. “Are you here to see me?” 

“You’re imagining things,” Elena said coldly. 

She didn’t want to waste time talking to them and was about to enter the hospital when Justin blocked her path. His expression was dark. 

“Lena, have you seen Nadi’s wrist? She’s injured and fragile -both physically and emotionally. How can you speak to her like that?” 

Elena found it ridiculous. Nadine could stage a fake suicide to fool Justin, and that was one thing, but expecting her to play along as well was absurd.

Justin frowned as he watched Elena’s expression. Irritation was growing inside him. 

“You…” 

He was about to snap when a screeching car horn cut through the air. 

Glancing to the side, he saw a truck careening out of control. It was barreling straight tow “Nadi, watch out!”
