Chapter 13
Nadine rushed over to Justin, clinging to his arm as tears streamed down her face. “Jus, didn’t you promise this project would be mine? If I don’t deliver results, how will I have any standing when we start working with the Miller family in Hupolis?”
She had already changed into a fresh outfit. It was a new-season designer piece that fit her perfectly.
“Looks like he even keeps her clothes in his office lounge. How thoughtful of him,” Elena sneered inwardly.
“Jus?” She looked up at him with glistening eyes.
Justin hesitated, saying nothing.
The clients had already made it clear they weren’t happy with her. And then there was Elena…
If he kept forcing Nadine onto this project, the loss would outweigh the gain.
At first, he thought giving her this opportunity would help build her reputation. But then he recalled that she was already on close terms with the Miller family. Even without these achievements, it wouldn’t
matter much.
“Alright, Nadi. Step out for now,” he coaxed.
Frustration burned inside Nadine, but she swallowed it. Making a scene would only let Elena win. So, she bit back her anger, shot Elena a resentful look, and left the office.
Justin turned back. His smile softened. “Lena, it’s fine now. Don’t be upset. I’ll do as you say.”
He used the same gentle tone as always. His voice was filled with affection. “You’re my wife. Do you
really think I would stand against you?”
Elena sneered inwardly, “Wife? It’s just two forged marriage certificates. What wife am I? Besides, you’re not choosing me. You’re just being calculative.”
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave,” she said flatly.
“Lena, don’t stay mad, alright?” He caught her wrist. “Once this busy stretch is over, I’ll take you to Timsog to see the northern lights, okay?”
Timsog. The northern lights. That was the honeymoon destination they once promised each other. She had looked forward to it for three years.
Hearing him bring it up again stirred something faint inside her. But the feeling died almost instantly. There was nothing left to hope for. That place didn’t matter anymore. And neither did the man who once vowed to see it with her.
She stayed silent, but he smiled with confidence. He was certain that mentioning the northern lights would soften her heart. He knew how badly she once wanted to go with him.

He really had meant to take her, but the company got busy, and then Nadine came back. So, he put it off.
He figured that once he found time to take Elena, all the resentment she had been holding onto would
vanish without a trace.
She gave a perfunctory reply, then turned on her heel and walked away.
He didn’t catch the indifference in her tone. Watching her go, he called after her, “Tonight I’m hosting a dinner to smooth things over with the client. Lena, you’ll come with me.”
That evening, they arrived at the restaurant together.
Just as they stepped out of the car, they ran into several clients pulling up at the same time.
The moment the clients saw Elena, their faces lit up. Their warm, polite greetings made it seem as if the
earlier tension had never happened.
“Mr. Koch.” Justin shook hands with the man in front of him.
Joshua Koch laughed. “Mr. Riggs, you’re far too kind for inviting us out for dinner.”
“It’s the least I can do,” Justin replied with a smile. “I’ve reserved a private room. Please, after you.”
“Thank you…
Oh? Isn’t that Mr. Fletcher?” Joshua waved at a middle-aged man who had just stepped out
of another car. “Nathan, what brings you here?”
Following his gaze, Elena watched as the man-introduced as Mr. Fletcher-hurried to the backseat. He opened the door with deference and bowed slightly to welcome someone out.
The man who stepped from the car was none other than Alexander.
