Chapter 117
The instant Gavin blurted out the question, he already regretted it.
”
For Natalie, who barely knew Josie, it made sense for her to have some wild guesses. But for the rest of them, it was different.
They’d been with Josie every step of the way, seeing her dedication and talent with their own
eyes.
Calling her Delilah’s spy was just ridiculous. If it hadn’t been for the plagiarism scandal, she never would’ve left the team.
As long as she stayed, there was nothing in it for Delilah anyway.
Besides, Josie was right. For the past few years, she’d been working nonstop for the team, barely even having time for herself.
She could hardly keep up with her major, let alone secretly pick up something else.
No matter what anyone else thought, in that moment, Gavin trusted Josie.
But thinking about how determined she was now, it still stung a little for him.
“Even if what you said is all true, you can’t just cut us off like that. Don’t you care about us at all?” he asked.
Josie laughed. “If your so–called feelings are all about whether I lend you money or not, then sorry, I guess I don’t.”
“Josie!” Gavin’s face turned pale.
He thought to himself, ‘No matter how much I trust her innocence, at the end of the day, Josie is just a country bumpkin. She is not as polite as Natalie.‘
Though he believed that Josie was innocent, with the way she was acting, he didn’t want anything to do with her.
He said coldly, “Since you’ve made yourself clear, there’s nothing left for me to say.
“I’ve already paid back what I owed you. Shouldn’t you delete those records?”
Josie immediately got it. “So all this was just about getting me to delete the chat logs where you borrowed money from me? Are you afraid I’ll spill your secrets?”
She let out a cold laugh. “I’m not as petty as you lot. You’ve already paid me back. Why would I bother exposing you?”

Josie pulled out her phone, found their chat history, deleted every message between them,
and then blocked Gavin.
Watching all this, Gavin’s expression turned even worse. “Wow, you really want nothing to do with me, huh?”
“Not just you,” Josie shot him a quick smile, and right there in front of him, she blocked his
teammates.
“Feel better now?” she asked.
Josie stepped aside. “I don’t owe you guys anything. And from now on, stop calling me a spy.
“It just makes you all look dumb and makes Professor Lawson look bad.”
With that, she turned and strode off, leaving Gavin standing there, reeling in the wind.
Gavin thought, ‘Damn, she is savage.
‘How could she be this ruthless?
‘She used to be so timid, never even daring to raise her voice at us, always afraid of making us upset. How did she end up like this?‘
Gavin felt a tightness in his chest, like he couldn’t breathe for a moment.
He tugged at his collar, the cold wind cutting right through, but he barely noticed.
He’d never thought much of Josie because he felt that she was cowardly, timid, not pretty enough, not enthusiastic enough, not rich enough, and not generous enough.
However, watching her resolute back as she walked away, he felt that he’d just lost something important.
He felt a gaping emptiness in his chest, hurting way more than he ever expected.
Gavin trudged back to the lab, feeling completely drained.
“What did she say?” Jaden asked, rushing over as soon as he saw Gavin.
Gavin shook his head. “She chewed me out. She said accusing her of being a spy not only makes me look stupid but also makes Professor Lawson look bad.
“She was so busy when she was on the team, she barely had time to breathe, let alone learn another major. We really misunderstood her.
“She blocked all of us. She’s determined to cut ties with us for good.”
Gavin let out a sigh, but he still couldn’t shake the heaviness in his chest.

Jaden was honestly surprised. “When did she get so determined all of a sudden?”
