Chapter 5

I was curious to see who this greedy man would choose when push came to shove.

“That tramp was never trustworthy! I told you not to marry her! She’s trying to end the Johnson bloodline!”

“Son, Shirley just gave birth to your baby boy. She’s physically vulnerable. If you don’t go after her now, who knows what could happen? Hurry!”

His mother shouted frantically beside him. William glanced at me, muttering, “Diana, wait for me.” He grabbed his coat and bolted out.

I calmly watched him leave. The man I’d once loved had become unrecognizable.

We graduated together. Worked side by side. Promised to build a life, raise children, grow old as one.

How laughable. After marriage, he changed. Cheated while I carried his child. Yet I foolishly loved him all these

years.

Now, resolved to divorce him, he races to another woman.

His mother shot me a triumphant look, chin lifted as she swept from the room.

“Move out quickly,” she tossed over her shoulder. “We need the nursery for the baby.”

“I’ll leave ASAP,” I smiled.

Surprise flickered across her face before delight took over. In her imaginary battle against the daughter-in-law, she’d finally won.

No point telling her the deed would change hands the moment I left.

Pulling out my phone, I listed the penthouse with realtors immediately.

Neither William nor Shirley returned all morning.

I called my lawyer, sending evidence of William’s affair and love child. “Draft divorce papers fast. Make sure he leaves with nothing.”

Then it hit me. William, that straight-laced doctor, owned little. The downtown penthouse? The luxury car? The de- signer suits? All funded by me.

Wonder if his little nurse would still shack up with him in the suburbs once she learns he’s broke.

While packing, a notification popped up:

Chapter 5

Booking a hotel room the moment he found her?

I logged into his Digital Wallet Service, reversed the payment. Spent ten minutes canceling all Family Sharing privi- leges and resetting every bank card password.

All these years, William grew accustomed to swiping my cards-even for hotel rooms with his mistress.

Talk about nerve.

By noon, I’d packed everything. His mother watched coldly, smugness oozing from every porc.

In her eyes, her son-Washington’s top doctor at its finest hospital-earned every possession through merit.

So she felt justified kicking me out, making room for her chosen daughter-in-law.
