“Logan, are you mad?”
He didn’t say anything, but his gaze remained cold.
I poked him again, this time a little harder, flashing a sheepish smile.
Only then did the frostiness in his expression ease up a bit.
He pulled the car over, turned slightly, and leaned toward me.
“Why wouldn’t you let me step in just now?”
I instinctively backed up against the window, curling up slightly in my seat.
“Because… this is a mess I created. I wanted to handle it myself.”
“I didn’t want to drag you into it.”
Logan let out a short laugh, clearly exasperated, then reached out and pinched my cheek.
“Handle it yourself? So what, you still don’t see me as your husband?”
I pressed my lips together, unsure what to say.
We’d known each other since childhood but had been apart for years.
Then suddenly, we were married–it was gonna take time to adjust.
“Emma, you need to remember–we’re already legally married.”
“We’ve taken our wedding photos. The ceremony is happening soon.”
“We are husband and wife.”
“That means your problems are my problems.”
“If you ever find yourself in a situation like that again, I will step in and put those idiots in their place.”
His tone was firm, almost gritted through his teeth.
I knew he meant well.
His handsome face inched closer, his gaze locked onto mine.
Before I could think it through, I leaned up and pressed a quick kiss to the corner of his lips.
“Don’t be mad, okay? I’ll listen to you from now on.”
Logan immediately leaned back in his seat, looking calm as ever while starting the car.
But the way his ears turned red gave him away.
The car ride fell into silence, thick with an unspoken tension.
Back at my apartment, I made sure to wash Logan’s jacket before returning it to him.

After watching him drive off, I turned to head inside-
Only to run straight into a very drunk Dylan, stumbling at the entrance.
I wanted nothing to do with him, so I tried to walk around.
But the moment he saw me, he rushed forward.
His eyes were red–rimmed, and his voice was hoarse as he demanded,
“Who was that guy, Emma? The one driving you just now who the hell is he?”
“And that jacket you had on last time–was it his too?”
His sudden outburst startled me.
I took a deep breath to steady myself before answering coldly.
“How is that any of your business? Dylan, get this through your head–we’re over.”
“Even if I was married, it would have nothing to do with you.”
But it was like he was possessed. He reached out, trying to grab my hand.
The overwhelming stench of alcohol hit me, making my stomach turn.
I quickly took two steps back to avoid him.
Dylan froze for a second before his face twisted in hurt, disbelief flashing in his eyes.
“Emma… are you avoiding me?”
“Of course I am.”
“I don’t want any misunderstandings, and I sure as hell don’t want to be touching any man that isn’t my husband.”
That hit him right where it hurt.
His whole body tensed as he let out a desperate, almost hysterical yell.
“Husband? No way!”
“You’re not marrying anyone but me!”
Then, as if flipping a switch, his voice softened into something sickeningly sweet.
“Emma, don’t be fooled. I’m the only man who truly loves you. Any other guy?”
“He’s just playing with you.”
“I’m the only one who would actually marry you. The rest?”
“They’re just lying to you.”
I laughed–actually laughed.
A real, full–bodied laugh that had my voice shaking with amusement.
“Dylan, do you even believe the bullshit you’re saying right now?”
