Tears in Jaxon’s eyes instantly burst like a dam.
“Harley Sinclair!”
Jaxon called my name with heartbreaking anguish.
Our eyes met, and I’d never seen such defeated, wretched expression on Jaxon’s face.

Long silence later, the phone crashed to the ground and hung up.

Not until year’s end, when Jaxon’s lawyer called me about his will, did I learn the truth.
Jaxon had drunk himself to stomach bleeding and was rushed to ICU for emergency treatment.
After regaining consciousness, the man left a will and then pulled out his oxygen tube.

Seeing me staring down at my phone with an unusual expression, Dash casually asked about it.
I put down my phone and waved it off, not taking it seriously.
Seeing the clay sculpture gift he’d made by hand on the table, I smiled and teased:
“Next year we’ll have to make three little figures.”

Walking out of the restaurant, this year’s first snow was just falling.

But I didn’t know he’d waited in the first snow all night and missed his chance to confess.
