Chapter 8

I had to admit, she was good at playing the victim-her pitiful act was enough to soften even my heart. So it was no surprise when Xavier turned to me, his voice low and furious. “Rosalie, have you had enough?”

The veins on his forehead bulged, and I knew he was at his limit. But his next words still chilled me to the bone. “Go back to the pack estate. Give me some time, and I’ll give you an explanation.”

See, his choice was always clear-Hanna over me.

That familiar wave of sorrow washed over me again, but this time, it felt like a weight had been lifted. Yes, wasn’t it always

like this?

Whenever Hanna cried, he’d turn into a raging Alpha, yelling at me, “You’re being unreasonable. My patience has limits.”

“Same to you,” I said, looking him straight in the eye. I loved him for six years, but now it’s over.

I turned to Hanna, who was smirking in triumph, and clapped for her. “Congratulations, little mermaid. You’ve finally made it to shore to be with your Alpha prince. But guess what? This fairy tale doesn’t have a happy ending.”

Once upon a time, I was the little mermaid too. For love, I left my circle and accepted the mate bond. I traded my voice for silence, losing the right to speak up for myself. Every step felt like walking on knives, as I watched my Alpha entwine with

someone else.

But now, I was done.

I pulled out the Mate Bond Dissolution Agreement I had prepared and threw it in Xavier’s face. “Xavier, let’s end this.”

He caught it, his eyes widening as he saw the clause stating he’d have to give up all pack assets and leave with nothing. “Dissolve the bond? And you want me to leave with nothing?”

We had sworn at the Blackthorn altar that no matter how bad the fights got, we’d never mention “dissolving the bond.”

He finally realized I was serious and stumbled toward me, his voice desperate. “Rosalie, I was too harsh earlier. It’s my fault. Listen to me, please. Don’t dissolve the bond, okay?”

His eyes softened, trying to use the old tenderness to sway me, but when his gaze fell on my flat stomach, he froze-he had just noticed that the once-rounded belly was now flat.

“Where’s the pup?” He grabbed my shoulders, his grip so tight it felt like he might crush my bones. “I’m asking you!

Where’s my pup?”

I let himn shake me, a cold smile spreading across my face as I turned to Soren. “Bring it in.”

I took the cooler from Soren and tossed it on the ground. “Take a look. This is my ‘wedding gift’ to Hanna, on your behalf.”

The cooler opened, revealing the medical container with the embryonic tissue inside. Xavier collapsed to the floor, screaming, “Why? Why would you do this?”

I looked down at him, my heart numb. “When you jumped into the sea to save Hanna, ‘our pup’-“I paused, correcting myself bitterly, “your and Hanna’s pup, was already gone.”

Xavier looked up, his eyes filled with horror. “You… you knew?”

He tried to lunge at me, but Soren finally lost it, kicking him in the chest. “You bastard! How could you do this to Rosalie? How can you face her dead father?”
