Nicole silently leveled him with a blank stare. Hayden immediately understood her intention and released her hand dejectedly.
“Rest well. I’ll stop bothering you now.” He pursed his lips and left quietly.
After Nicole was sure that he had left, she sighed in relief and closed her eyes. Then, she started to plan her next steps.
She hoped that her escape would go smoothly. She also wished that Hayden would find what she had left for him in his study soon, but it didn’t matter if he didn’t.
After her disappearance, Hayden would figure out why she left sooner or later anyway.
When Nicole woke up the next day, she sensed someone beside her before she even opened her eyes.
Surprised, she turned around and saw Hayden reading a book in silence.
On the table next to him was a plate of freshly–made breakfast, pills, and a glass of warm water.
Nicole’s heart clenched at the sight. The scene felt so surreal. She asked, “Why are you here?”
Hayden looked up and smiled warmly. “I was waiting for you to wake up so we could have breakfast together.
“I ordered someone to fetch your meds, but they were already packaged separately without labels. Are you sure you can take them directly?”
Hayden frowned. He couldn’t help but feel that Jeremiah had been too sloppy when giving Nicole her prescription.
Nicole secretly sighed in relief. Jeremiah had understood what she meant and did not include her medication’s original packaging to hide her secret.
Thus, Nicole sat beside the table and took her pills with a few gulps of water.
She asked, “Why were you waiting for me this early in the morning? Do you have something to say to me?”
Hayden smiled and playfully tapped her nose. “You know me so well. Didn’t I say that we’re going to make up and return to how we used to be? We’ve been so distant lately, and I don’t like it.”
He held Nicole’s hand tightly. “Didn’t you use to say that you wanted to bring Matt to the aquarium? Why don’t we go together?”
Nicole wasn’t excited at all. She simply frowned impatiently. She wanted to refuse, but Hayden had already gotten up to prepare.
“By the way, it’s going to be cold there, so I prepared a thicker coat for you. Remember to put it on later,” Hayden said and placed a blue wool sweater in front of Nicole.

Nicole was still sitting beside the table and wasn’t even given the chance to refuse. She had no choice but to follow Hayden’s arrangements like a lifeless puppet.
When they went downstairs after washing up and eating breakfast, Matthew was nowhere to be seen.
Hayden frowned. He had told Matthew to wait for them in the living room.
He looked at Taylor coldly. “Where’s Matt? Why didn’t you keep an eye on him?”
“Mr. Matthew ran away because he didn’t want to go to the aquarium. None of us saw him leave. I’m sorry, Mr. Spencer. It’s all our fault!” Taylor lowered his head and apologized.
Hayden looked at Nicole nervously, trying to gauge her response. However, Nicole’s response was
lukewarm at best. She didn’t seem to care whether Matthew was willing to spend time with her at all.
She rushed Hayden along. “Aren’t we leaving? Hurry up.”
To her, it was good that Matthew wasn’t tagging along. That was one less thing to ruin her mood.
