Hayden was too scared to say anything that would upset Nicole. “Alright. Then, you should rest in this room. I’ll get out of your hair for now.”
Seeing the lack of reaction on Nicole’s face, he walked out of the room in dejection.
When Hayden left the room, his housekeeper, Emily Parker, approached and watched him cautiously.
“Mr. Spencer, Mrs. Spencer looks extremely frail. Should we not examine her? I already investigated it. The hospital suite she stayed in is only open to people who are seriously ill or those who need a quiet place to recuperate.”
Hearing her words, Hayden massaged the space between his brows. He said coldly, “I’ll look into it. Since she doesn’t want to see a doctor, let’s not hire a specialist for now. We’ll return to this topic in a few days.”
Nicole wasn’t going anywhere anyway.
Anger flashed in Hayden’s eyes as he pursed his lips. He was usually calm and reserved. He only ever showed sides of himself that contrasted with his image when Nicole was involved.
Emily was stunned to see this. The anger in Hayden’s eyes made her think that Hayden would descend into madness if Nicole really disappeared or left him one day. She averted her eyes and scurried away.
After Emily went downstairs, Hayden went to his study. He opened his drawer and saw a letter, but he ignored it in favor of thinking up ways to mend his relationship with Nicole.
Meanwhile, Nicole was sitting in her room. When she stopped hearing movements outside the door, she walked to the window to peek outside. She was surprised to discover that the window, which used to open freely, had been locked from the outside.
It had definitely been locked to prevent her from jumping out the window. Nicole couldn’t help but snicker.
It seemed like Hayden was adamant about keeping her here this time. He did everything to prevent her escape and confine her in this house.
Nicole clutched the curtains tightly. She felt so tired of it all. Her face was so pale that it almost seemed translucent.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door. Nicole sat back on the bed and said, “Come in.”
The door opened to reveal Emily, with whom Nicole had a pretty good relationship. Emily seemed to be in a rush to enter the room.
Confusion flickered in Nicole’s gaze, but she still welcomed Emily inside.
Emily placed a hot bowl of chicken soup in front of her. The soup’s appetizing aroma filled the room almost instantly,
Emily smiled and said, “Mrs. Spencer, Mr. Spencer told us to prepare this for you. It’s good for your body,

so go ahead and have some.”

Nicole frowned, but she didn’t refuse. Instead, she picked up the bowl and downed everything in one go.
Emily was shocked by the sight. She didn’t expect Nicole to finish the soup immediately. After processing what had happened, Emily smiled brightly.
“If Mr. Spencer finds out about how you cared about your health enough to drink the entire bowl, he’ll be elated. He’s extremely worried about you, so-”
“That’s enough.” Nicole huffed as her face turned cold.
“Are you done talking? If you are, then hurry up and leave.”
Emily was too scared to continue running her mouth, so she quickly left after tidying up.
Nicole locked herself in the room until late into the night. The room was silent the entire time.
Emily came by multiple times to invite her downstairs to eat. Nicole didn’t have an appetite, so she rejected Emily each time.
At the very least, this was how she found out that the door to her room was left unlocked.
