After a few moments of silence, Nicole finally heard footsteps as Hayden and Gloria left.
When they finally made their exit, Nicole lay back down, exhausted.
They wouldn’t even leave her to recuperate in peace. At least there was a door between them, so she could still ignore Hayden’s presence. Otherwise, she wasn’t sure what she would’ve done in her awful
mood.
Nicole’s gaze grew colder when the thought entered her mind. Drained, she drifted off to sleep at some point during the night.
The door opened soon after, and a masked nurse stepped into the room.
She walked up to Nicole and placed a new glass of water on the nightstand before cleaning up the glass shards on the ground. Then, she pulled out a pill from her pocket.
After checking the door and making sure no one was around, she forced Nicole’s mouth open and fed her the pill. The crease between Nicole’s brows slowly smoothed out as she relaxed in her sleep.
When Nicole woke up next, she heard a familiar voice. “How much longer will Mrs. Spencer be asleep?”
“The family doctor already examined her and said the drug would wear off soon, but he wasn’t sure when.”
The more she listened, the more familiar the voice seemed. It sounded like the voice of someone she
knew.
Her eyes eventually fluttered open. To her surprise, the first thing she saw was the face of a man who was around 50 years old. Nicole was stunned by the sight.
Taylor jumped up in joy and cried, “Mrs. Spencer’s awake! I’ll call Mr. Spencer over right away!”
He rushed out after that.
Nicole stared up at the butterfly chandelier hanging from the ceiling. When she fully regained her
consciousness, her breathing began to pick up.
She immediately sat up. Shockingly, she had woken up in the Spencer residence instead of her hospital
suite!
This room had been Nicole and Hayden’s shared bedroom. They had slept in this room together every
night before everything started to change two weeks ago.
Nicole clenched her fists. When she recalled the words she heard Taylor say when she was still in a daze, her eyes turned cold.
She soon heard movement at the door, and a tall figure stood outside.
Hayden was wearing a black dress shirt with his collar unbuttoned. He carried the same regal air he

always did, but his face looked haggard.
Seeing that Nicole had woken up, he quickly rushed over to Nicole’s bedside and pulled her into his embrace. His hand held the back of Nicole’s head with utmost care.

“Nicky, please listen to me. I know this will make you angry, but I didn’t know how else I could talk to you.”
Nicole closed her eyes. She didn’t have the strength to push him away. After everything she had done and said to get away from Hayden, she still ended up here in the end.
Would she be free from Hayden after leaving this place? Or would she only be free after her death?
“Don’t worry. I already arranged for specialists to bring some medical equipment here. Your body is
unwell.
“The family doctor said you might have gotten sick with a serious illness, but don’t be scared. I’m here. I’ll
hire the best doctors for you!”
Hayden held Nicole’s cold fingers and watched her expression closely. “Nicky, you can scold and hit me.
Just don’t be angry at me or ignore me, okay?”
Nicole blinked slowly and finally spoke. “You don’t need to hire a doctor or a specialist. I don’t need to be
examined. I’m not sick.”
“The checkup is a must. The family doctor already looked at your health indicators and said they were outside the normal range. Why didn’t you tell me anything?”
Hayden brushed the loose strands of hair from Nicole’s forehead. “Do as I say. You’ll be fine.”
Nicole took a deep breath and forced herself to say, “I can stay here on one condition–no checkups. Otherwise, I’ll make sure to get away from this place even if I have to jump off this floor. Make your
choice.”
Hayden tensed up and frowned. “Nicky, why won’t you listen to me? Don’t you care about your health at-” “Can you fulfill my condition or not?” Nicole cut him off impatiently.
