Chapter 90
Could Hayden recover from this? Did he get into a car accident because he refused to go home and drove all over the city late at night in search of Nicole?
Nicole felt conflicted and overwhelmed.
Logic told her that it didn’t matter how Hayden was doing because he no longer had anything to do with her. They didn’t even have a marriage certificate, so they hadn’t been husband and wife to begin with.
However, her emotions were at odds with her logical side. When Nicole considered that she might have
been the reason Hayden got into an accident, she started to feel anxious. This dilemma went on until
someone knocked on the door.
Jeremiah walked into the room. “Hayden is-”
Before he could finish his sentence, he saw how pale Nicole looked and paused. “Have you heard about it
already?”
“Yes, I have.” Nicole’s fingers clenched around her blanket. She looked lost.
Then, she turned to Jeremiah with a blank stare. “I–I need to see him.”
Jeremiah sighed. “News reports say that there’s a high chance he won’t survive this, and he’s currently
undergoing treatment in the Spencer family’s private hospital.
“If you don’t go, you might miss your last chance to see him. But can your body even handle it?”
Nicole was already trembling all over. It took all she had to erase the man she had loved for seven years from her heart. But one piece of bad news was all it took for Hayden to make a mark in her heart again.
Regardless of whether she loved or hated Hayden, they had a child together. If she didn’t see him one last
time, she knew she would regret it.
Nicole grabbed her coat with shaky hands and got out of bed. After putting on her shoes, she walked out
of the room.
Seeing how shaken she was, Jeremiah followed her out of concern. After leaving the hospital, Jeremiah drove Nicole to the Spencer family’s private hospital.
On their way there, Nicole didn’t let anything show on her face. She simply stared out of the window in silence. No one could tell what she was thinking.
Jeremiah couldn’t read her mind. He glanced at her from time to time and slowly drove her to their destination.
Plenty of reporters had gathered outside the private hospital, rushing to report Hayden’s latest condition. Nicole was almost spotted by them when she tried to get out of the car.
She quickly shut the door and gestured for Jeremiah to drive her in through the back door. Only members

of the Spencer family knew how to traverse the basement parking lot to get to the back door.

Jeremiah successfully avoided the reporters and brought her into the building. “You need to mentally prepare yourself and make sure not to get too upset. You know you can’t afford to be too emotional right now,” “he reminded Nicole worriedly.
Nicole wasn’t paying him any attention at all and simply nodded along. When they reached the highest floor, they found the hallway empty. No one was waiting outside of Hayden’s hospital suite.
Where was Olivia? What about Gloria and Matthew? Was everyone inside seeing him for the last time
because he was about to die?
Countless scenarios flashed in Nicole’s mind. She slowly walked up to the door. The door didn’t have a window, so she couldn’t see what was going on inside.
Nicole’s hand was trembling now. She tried her best to calm herself down. Then, she gritted her teeth and pushed the door open.
Hayden lay on a bed all alone inside the room, his face as pale as a sheet. Although his facial features were as handsome as always, his usual imposing demeanor was nowhere to be seen.
No one else was around, and the ECG at his bedside beeped incessantly.
Nicole had imagined this scene countless times. But in her imagination, the one lying on the bed had always been her. Nicole didn’t understand how things had got to this point.
She bit her lower lip and stumbled to his bedside. Wanting to feel Hayden’s temperature, she reached for
his hand.
Just as Nicole touched Hayden’s finger, he suddenly opened his eyes and pulled her onto the bed.
