Jeremiah’s gaze sharpened. He said, “No, I’m not the doctor on shift, so I don’t have my eyes on Nicole all the time. Why are you asking me?”
Although his response was nonchalant, Hayden still noticed something amiss.
Hayden’s face turned cold. He slowly walked up to Jeremiah and stared him down. “You know where
Nicole is, don’t you?”
Jeremiah shrugged. “I already said that I don’t know anything.”
“Then, call her right now and ask where she is.” Hayden picked up the phone he had left at the edge of the
table. His eyes were filled with hostility when he asked, “Are you calling her, or do I need to make you?”
Jeremiah was silent for a few seconds. Then, he accepted the phone Hayden had handed him.
“Stop looking for her. She already said she wouldn’t see you again. She was worried you’d harass me, so
she didn’t tell me her whereabouts. No matter how many times you ask me, my answer will still be the
same. I don’t know anything.”
Hayden’s face darkened at his words. His heart sank.
“Why? Did she say why she wouldn’t see me?”
Jeremiah looked up at him with eyes filled with mockery. “Are you faking it, or are you really that dense?
You suspected her of cheating on you and allowed your kid to disrespect her.
“What’s more, you even neglected her to cosy up with other women. Now that she’s refusing to see you,
you’re asking me for a reason? How could you be so selfish and heartless?”
Hayden took a deep breath. It was getting hard for him to breathe. He looked dispirited, a huge contrast
to his usual liveliness.
“Things aren’t as they seem. If that’s what Nicole thinks of me, then she’s misunderstood. I can explain
myself to her, but you need to tell me how I can contact her.”
Hayden never stopped calling Nicole on his way here. Unsurprisingly, Nicole had blocked both his
numbers.
Even if he wanted to explain himself, he didn’t know how to reach Nicole.
The thought of Nicole becoming so angry at him that she would never talk to him again tore a gaping hole
in his chest.
Jeremiah frowned. He was rendered speechless.
“I really don’t know. Leave. If you continue to bother me while I’m at work, I’ll call for security.” Jeremiah went back to his desk and grabbed a random document, pointedly ignoring Hayden.

Hayden clenched his fists. He had no choice but to leave. As he silently walked down the hospital’s hallway, complicated emotions filled his eyes.
All the recent events flashed through his mind like a movie reel. Still, all that struck him was his jealousy of Nicole and Jeremiah’s relationship, and his indifference to Gloria’s growing bond with Matthew.
Why did Nicole leave and refuse to see him because of that? After walking out of the hospital and getting into his car, Hayden pulled out his phone and considered sending Nicole a message.
Once Jeremiah was sure Hayden had left, he went straight to the VIP suite.
Inside, Nicole was calmly watching television. She slowly blinked at the sound of the door opening. “Did
he come to see you?”
Jeremiah hummed in acknowledgement. He said, “He still doesn’t know how badly he crossed the line.
He thought you left because of Matthew.”
Mentioning Hayden only pissed Jeremiah off again. He had never seen someone so slow on the uptake.
He didn’t even reflect on his mistakes.
“What’s your next move? Are you really never seeing him again?”
Nicole dragged her gaze away from the television and finally met Jeremiah’s eyes. She blinked solemnly
before saying, “Dr. Peterson, do you think it even matters if I meet him at this point?”
Jeremiah shrugged. “I just think he might fall apart if he fails to find you.”
“So what? I don’t want to see him and stress myself out. My current priority is leaving this place alive.”
As she spoke, Nicole looked down and saw multiple message notifications on her phone. Upon opening
them, she saw the usually cold and prideful Hayden apologizing to her through text.
