Chapter 79
Hayden’s towering figure disappeared through the hospital room’s doorway and didn’t return.
Nicole clenched her fists as she glanced at the card he left behind, refusing to open it.
After a moment of hesitation, though, she finally opened it.
There were only a few lines written inside.
“I’ve prepared a banquet for our seventh anniversary. You have to come no matter what. You’ll always be my wife and the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. I’ll wait for you tomorrow at 8:00 pm.”
As she gripped the card, her expression grew increasingly complicated. She felt like something bad was
bound to happen at the anniversary banquet.
Whether he planned to expose their marriage as a sham or to declare his love for Gloria, either would be a
massive humiliation to her.
What disgusted Nicole most was Hayden’s claim that she would always be his wife, and to ensure that
she would come to the banquet on time.
“Are you going?”
Jeremiah had returned at some point and read the contents of the card.
Nicole returned to her senses and nodded after a long pause.
“I will. Hayden went out of his way to invite everyone and prepared this banquet for me. I have no reason
not to, right?”
Jeremiah’s eyes were filled with concern as he stepped closer. “Nothing bad will happen, right? I’m
worried something unexpected might happen again, and your body won’t be able to take it. It wasn’t easy
for you to heal these past few days.”
At that, she smiled faintly. “Don’t worry. I’m prepared for anything Hayden throws at me. Even if he brings
Gloria in front of me and admits that she’s his real wife, I’ll be ready.”
At the end of the day, Nicole was human. Even if her heart was numb and broken, turmoil was bound to
corne.
But it didn’t matter. If she couldn’t endure this long enough to leave the country, visit Shawn, and leave
everything behind, she would be ashamed of herself.
Nicole wasn’t someone who could be crushed easily. If it weren’t for her terminal illness and the fact that she only had a little over a month left to live, she would’ve made Hayden and Matthew pay the price.
She casually asked, “There are still four days before I can leave, right?”
Jeremiah met her gaze and answered, “Yes. As long as the banquet doesn’t affect your health and you get

through these next few days safely, you can leave.”
“Alright. I understand.”
Nicole’s eyes flashed with determination and a hint of defiance.
2/2
There was nothing worse than a terminal illness in life. Thus, whatever Hayden wanted to do, she would
face him head–on.
Just then, a series of urgent knocks interrupted their conversation.
She turned toward the door and saw Olivia standing there with a blank expression. Her eyes darted back
and forth between Nicole and Jeremiah with suspicion as if she had just walked in on something
inappropriate.
“What are you doing here?” Nicole asked with a frown.
Jeremiah could tell from her tone that this was another unwelcome guest. Hence, he kept a close eye on
Olivia, fearing she would hurt Nicole.
Olivia let out a sneer and sauntered in, carrying a leather bag in her hand, and slowly made her way to the
foot of the bed.
“How long do you plan to be in the hospital? It’s only a mild concussion, so there’s no need to waste hospital resources. Or are you staying here because there’s someone you can’t bear to leave?” She glanced meaningfully at Jeremiah.
Nicole’s expression grew colder by the second.
Aside from Hayden and Matthew, she hated Olivia the most.
Olivia had been a constant source of trouble for her over the years.
Things had gotten ugly between them before, yet Olivia was here pushing her luck again. Did she think Nicole would put up with her again?
