Chapter 73
Nicole glanced up and locked eyes with Hayden. She froze momentarily as shock coursed through her,
but she didn’t let it show.
She hadn’t anticipated him overhearing her venting about her true feelings. Nonetheless, the words had already left her mouth, and there was nothing to explain.
She hurriedly shifted her gaze and ignored him completely.
However, Hayden had no intention of dropping the matter, and he was sure he hadn’t misheard her.
He walked over to the bed and stared at her as she fixed her cool gaze on the window. It was then that he
realized she was truly hurt.
His fist clenched involuntarily. “I planned this banquet because every day with you has felt like a blessing
throughout the last seven years of our marriage. So, I don’t understand why you’d say something like that.
Why do you find the idea of this banquet disgusting? Can you please explain it to me?”
Jeremiah’s eyes flickered nervously, fearful that Nicole might say something even more hurtful. Or worse,
he feared that she and Hayden might start a full–blown fight, which would only agitate her and hinder her
recovery.
Hence, he cleared his throat and tried to intervene. “Don’t get all worked up. You can talk this through later. Nicole is still recovering-”
“Shut up!” Hayden snapped and shot him a cold glare, his gaze glinting with a razor–sharp edge. “Can’t you
see that I’m talking to my wife? Who are you to meddle in our business? Get lost!”
When Nicole saw him being disrespectful, she got angrier and yelled, “You’re the one who should get lost!
I don’t want to see you right now. Get out!”
Hayden’s eyes widened, and he stared at her, looking visibly hurt. “Did you just yell at me for this man?”
Nicola arched a brow, her face expressionless as she challenged, “So what if I did? I’ve been lenient with you in the face of your constant lies and betrayal. I don’t believe something this small could hurt you.”
Her tone was filled with disgust and disdain.
Hayden pressed his lips together as disappointment and pain clouded his gaze.
He didn’t know what else to say. He never imagined Nicole would speak to him with such harsh, icy words. The only explanation he could think of was that she no longer loved him.
With that thought in mind, he nodded stiffly and forced a tight grin. “It’s clear that your doctor friend is more important to you than I am. So tell me, how did I lle and betray you?”
He took a step closer, his fist clenched so tightly that veins bulged along his forearms. He could barely
hold himself back.

Nicole couldn’t believe he dared to look upset. It was as if he’d done everything for her perfectly and was
greatly wronged.
At that point, she didn’t want to hold back anymore and was done pretending like she didn’t know all the
wrong he did.
Even if she wanted to leave him, she couldn’t swallow this anger and walk away quietly. She was
determined to let it all out.
With that, she stood up and chuckled coldly. “Fine. Since you claim you haven’t betrayed or lied to me, let’s not dig into the past. Let’s talk about something recent. You claim that you were working late in the office last night, but you were having a candlelit dinner with Gloria. How do you explain that?”
Jeremiah frowned as he listened in. Finally, he couldn’t suppress his anger and barked at Hayden, “You’ve
gone too far! How could you do something like that?”
However, Hayden looked completely baffled, as if he had no idea what she was talking about.
“When did I ever have dinner with Gloria? She was at the hospital all day yesterday and never left.”
Seeing that he was denying it, Nicole took out her phone and showed him the picture with a cold smirk on
her face.
“Gloria posted this on her Instagram. I’m not making anything up to frame you.”
