“What? Are you going to speak up for him?” Nicole questioned.
Her gaze was as cold as ice, and it made Hayden pause for a moment.
He pondered for a few seconds and said, “Caleb will kneel and apologize to you, but whether or not he marries that woman is up to the Gibson family. We shouldn’t meddle in their family business.”
She clenched her fists and looked at him with a hint of sarcasm. “Then, what if I insist on meddling?”
Hayden froze at that.
“There is no bargaining on this. No one had better speak up for Caleb.”
She laughed coldly and continued, “Unless of course, you’re saying that you empathize with Caleb and think that every woman in the world should be naive and stupid? And it’s their fault that they gave birth to a child out of wedlock, so much so that they can’t even ask for a proper title?”
Hayden frowned, and an unknown emotion churned beneath his eyes. He felt that Nicole’s words had
another meaning to them.
She wasn’t just referring to what Caleb had done. It was more like she was accusing him of something.
Could it be that she had learned the truth?
Quickly, he dismissed this thought. It had been years, and Nicole hadn’t suspected him of anything once.
It made more sense that she didn’t know their marriage certificate was forged.
He glanced at Caleb’s embarrassed expression and finally decided not to plead for him. “Caleb, you’re the
one who crossed Nicky. You’ll decide for yourself.”
Caleb raised his head in disbelief, his lips trembling. He wanted to say something, but he couldn’t seem to
find the words.
Since Hayden had already spoken, it only meant that he was on her side unconditionally.
Despite everything, Caleb couldn’t believe he was about to apologize to this sickly woman who was about
to cross over to the other side at any time.
He clenched his fists and moved step by step until he stopped in front of Nicole.
The spoiled young heir of the Gibson family, at nearly six feet tall, had never been humiliated like this in
his life. Yet, he was now on his knees, bowing his head beside Nicole’s bed.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have instructed those guys to pick on you. It’s my fault.”
Nicole slowly pulled out her phone and clicked the record button. As she looked at Caleb through her phone screen, stripped of all his dignity, she scoffed lightly.
“Not bad. You look pretty good on camera,” she remarked.
Chapter 65

Caleb gritted his teeth, his face red from humiliation.
Without hurrying, she clicked the save button. “Once you bring your mistress home and announce your wedding date, you will naturally be informed of the whereabouts of your son.”
Caleb rose to his feet without waiting another minute, but he had no courage to raise his lowered head
again.
“If you cross me again, the big screens throughout the city will be filled with the video of you kneeling.” Nicole couldn’t hold back the disgust that welled up in her heart, and her tone turned cold and impatient.
Caleb could only nod obediently.
Hayden glanced at him at this moment. When he was about to step up and ease the tension, the door
was suddenly pushed open.
“Nicky, let me safeguard the video. If you ever get hurt here again, I will ruin this man’s reputation.”
Hayden froze. He looked up and saw a man in his 30s enter the room. He wasn’t that tall, but with those
gold–rimmed glasses on, he looked especially intimidating.
Hayden was sharp enough to notice that this man seemed close to Nicole. He asked, “And you are?”
Nicole was used to Eugene’s thoughtfulness. With a casual tone, she explained, “This is my brother’s
assistant, Eugene.”
“Hello, Eugene.” Hayden extended his hand to shake Eugene’s.
However, Eugene ignored him and turned straight toward Nicole. “About that piece of land, I’ve already
put it under your and your brother’s names. If you ever run into any trouble, remember to call us. As long as we’re here, no one’s going to push you around.”
Saying this in front of Hayden was like a direct slap to his face.
A slight discomfort rose in his chest. “Don’t worry. I’m Nicky’s husband, and if anyone were to cause her
any harm, I would even the score with them,” Hayden said confidently.
“Who’s the one talking right now?” Eugene asked. He turned around and feigned a look of surprise.
“Oh, are you Mr. Spencer, the one who promised to give the land to Nicky but went back on your word and gave it to the person who caused her concussion instead?”
Hayden frowned slightly. Eugene’s ridicule left him feeling guilty, and he had no idea how to explain
himself.
Before he could say anything in retort, Eugene walked up and tucked Nicole into bed.
“I’ll get you a nice, healthy meal.”
She smiled at him and said, “Alright.”
