Chapter 55
The men watched on hungrily, clearly not planning to stop.
Nicole froze, staring fixedly at the glass of vodka with her phone in it.
It seemed she had no choice but to drink the vodka now.
She took a deep breath and grabbed the glass. The men around her began clapping their hands, chanting
loudly.
“Drink! Drink! Drink!”
Nicole’s heart pounded against her chest. She clutched the glass tightly and took a couple of steps
backward.
She then splashed the drink in the man’s face before he could so much as react.
The man stumbled back, covering his stinging eyes.
Now! Nicole flung the glass away and turned to run.
The man bellowed, “How fucking dare you? After her!”
The men chased after Nicole but couldn’t find her anywhere.
“Where is she?”
“She probably escaped in a cab!”
The men looked around frantically in search of Nicole. What they didn’t know was that she was hiding in the restroom on the second floor of the bar.
Nicole covered her mouth, careful not to make a sound as she crouched in the restroom stall. Her heart was racing as blood rushed through her veins. That, and the acrid smell wafting from around her, was too
much to bear.
Nausea kept surging up from her stomach, each wave more unbearable than the last.
In the end, Nicole threw up over the toilet. Both gastric acid and blood filled the bowl.
Nicole panted harshly as she looked up. She was pale as a sheet as blood flowed from her nose. Her body swayed unsteadily on her feet.
Just then, the voices of the men downstairs rang out.
“Caleb had said that this was our best chance to strike, given that Mr. Spencer is at the hospital with Ms.
Ashford. What a waste!”
“I don’t understand is it that difficult to deal with a sickly, frail woman like her? Why did Caleb even need our help?”

So Caleb was the one who’d tricked Nicole into coming over.
Hayden was at the hospital spending time with the love of his life, while Nicole was being tortured and
hunted down.
Nicole’s vision grew dark as she left the cubicle and collapsed to the floor.
“Miss? Miss, are you alright?” Someone seemed to cry out around her. She even felt herself being lifted.
Nicole wasn’t too sure what was happening. Worse yet, she couldn’t open her eyes either.
Somewhere in between, she seemed to be dreaming. It was a dream of when she was just about to marry
Hayden.
Shawn had gazed at Nicole worriedly as he asked, “Are you sure you won’t regret this? Is this the man you’re entrusting the rest of your life to? There are too many issues that might arise from you marrying Hayden. Most marriages that start with the woman pursuing the man don’t usually end well.”
Nicole had laughed and said, “That will never happen! Hayden would never betray me, Shawn. I’m sure
we’ll be very happy together.”
Nicole had turned her back to her brother, leaving their life abroad behind.
But the truth of the matter was that Nicole had been wrong.
She didn’t have a happy ending with Hayden. Heck, she wasn’t going to have a happy ending of her own either. Her life was going to be cut short at such a young age.
If Nicole could restart her life, she’d never marry Hayden.
When Nicole opened her eyes next, she realized she’d been sent to the hospital. A man was sitting beside her, nodding off slowly.
Nicole smiled. “Eugene,” she called.
Eugene startled awake. His brows knitted together when he saw that she was awake.
He carefully tucked her under the comforter. “How are you feeling? Does your head still hurt?”
