Chapter 53
“What happened to you, Nicky? It’s barely been a minute since I left, but you’ve already lost so much weight!” Shawn exclaimed.
Nicole paused slightly before sitting down in front of the laptop. She hadn’t expected Eugene to initiate the video call with Shawn without giving her prior warning.
It was precisely because Nicole had been worried Shawn would see her like this that she hadn’t dared to
contact him much. She didn’t know how to explain her situation in detail either, given their distance.
Thus, Nicole vaguely said, “Don’t worry, Shawn. I just caught a cold recently. I haven’t had the strongest
appetite either. I’m sure I’ll look much healthier after eating well for a couple of days.”
Shawn was still concerned. “Eugene told me you’re firm about your decision to divorce Hayden and will
be coming back with Eugene the day after tomorrow. Have you settled the legal side of things? Are you sure there’s no more hope for you and Hayden?”
Nicole smiled lightly, not holding on to even the slightest bit of hope. “Don’t worry, Shawn. I never go back
on something that I’ve set my mind on.”
“Good.” Shawn sighed. “When you come back, I’ll spend some time with you and bring you out traveling so
you can enjoy yourself. Let go of whoever or whatever it is you need to let go of. Remember that you still
have a bright, long life ahead of you.”
Tears filled Nicole’s eyes.
A bright, long life?
Nicole didn’t have that anymore.
Shawn would be so devastated if he knew about her cancer.
Nicole quickly wiped away her tears while Shawn wasn’t looking.
“There’s a jewelry design competition coming up soon. Why don’t we go and check out the artists‘ designs?” Shawn asked.
Nicole was taken aback. A jewelry design competition….
Nicole had forgotten that she used to design jewelry at Shawn’s company on a part–time basis, while also playing the cello.
The jewelry Nicole had carelessly created had been a massive hit each year. When Shawn recommended that Nicole participate in the jewelry design competition on account of her talent, she even won first place.
Nicole had been the reigning champion of this competition for five years before she met Hayden. It was only after marrying him that she gave up on cello–playing and her design work.

Seven years had passed since. Nicole still recalled how the media reporters had said her secluded retirement was a great tragedy.
Nicole’s passion for design suddenly reignited after years of lying dormant. She took a deep breath and said, “Shawn, could you help me register for the competition? I want to participate this year.”
Both Shawn and Eugene were shocked to hear this.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course I am.” Nicole had no hesitation whatsoever.
She only had a month left to live. Besides spending it with her family, she also wanted to live out her days. with no regrets. She wanted to do all the things she used to love.
Nicole shouldn’t have made herself Mrs. Spencer and hid herself in the first place. She should’ve had her own identity as a renowned jewelry designer and cellist.
Nicole hadn’t been born into this world to be someone’s wife or mother.
Shawn hadn’t noticed Nicole’s irregularities. He replied, “Alright. In that case, I’ll register you as a participant. The competition officially begins in half a month’s time.”
Nicole grew excited. “Don’t worry. I’ll be taking a ferry back home tomorrow afternoon.”
It was the afternoon when they eventually parted ways. Eugene had to leave in order to deal with some
work.
Nicole felt much better after speaking to Shawn. Sure enough, spending time with those you were
comfortable around always made time pass by faster.
Nicole smiled in a relaxed way, something she hadn’t done in a long time.
She was about to head home when she received a call from an unsaved number. She answered it, only to
hear a panicked voice.
