Hayden saw the certificate in Nicole’s hand and marched right up to her. He then snatched it from her
hands.
Nicole’s brows knitted slightly. “What are you doing?” she asked sourly.
Hayden said nothing as he dragged Nicole down the stairs with him.
He tossed the certificate at Gloria and said darkly, “Don’t bother Nicole with such matters anymore. The next time you need something like this, just tell me, and I’ll have my assistant bring it to you.”
There was a warning tone behind his words.
Gloria’s smile stiffened. She saw how calm Nicole was beside Hayden and knew that Nicole hadn’t read through all the contents of the marriage certificate.
Gloria forced herself to keep smiling. Gnawing on her lower lip, she said, “Okay, I got it. I’ll call you next
time.”
Hayden nodded.
“I only came over because Olivia really needed the document. Don’t be angry…” Gloria clutched her chest, breath quickening.
Hayden knew he couldn’t tell her off anymore, so he quietly asked, “What is it? Is it your heart again? If you’re feeling unwell, then stay and rest at the hospital. Don’t go busying yourself with these trivial things.”
Hayden then nodded at Taylor. “Please see Ms. Ashford out.”
Gloria hadn’t expected Hayden not to send her off himself. She was unable to keep herself composed and
shambled out of the house after Taylor.
Hayden turned around to face Nicole after Gloria had left. He carefully observed her expression. “Did you
see anything earlier?”
Nicole looked at him and retorted by saying, “I saw many things. Which one do you mean?”
“I…” Hayden found himself speechless for a second. His gaze only darkened.
Based on her nonchalant expression, he guessed that Nicole hadn’t thoroughly read the contents of the marriage certificate yet.
He sighed in relief and held her hand. “I told you that if you just rest at home and don’t see Dr. Petersen, I’ll get that land back under your name as soon as possible. So why did you go to the hospital today?”
Nicole had already gotten her medication from the hospital. It was sitting quietly in her pocket.
She stood motionless when facing Hayden’s questioning. “You don’t need to go to the trouble of acquiring the land anymore. I’ve already acquired it myself.”

“What?” Hayden was shocked to hear this. “You’ve acquired it? How?”
“It was under Caleb’s cousin’s name, so my brother’s assistant came back from overseas and signed a contract with that man right away. Once the seven–day period is up, the land will automatically be transferred to my brother.”
Nicole felt immensely pleased to see the shock on Hayden’s face.
“From now on, you have no say over who I see in my day–to–day life,” she said.
Nicole then flung Hayden’s hand away and went to take a shower.
Hayden was taken aback as he watched her leave.
Wasn’t Shawn just a jewelry dealer? How could he have that much influence to be able to find out who
owned that piece of land, as well as outright buy it?
Did Shawn even have that much money? The land was worth millions of dollars.
Additionally, how did Caleb’s cousin become the current owner of that land?
Hayden recalled how Caleb’s abductor had insisted that he hand the land over when Hayden tried to save
Caleb. As if suddenly understanding something, Hayden’s expression darkened.
He turned around to leave, but suddenly saw a glass half full of water on the table.
It was the glass Nicole used only when she took her medicine.
Hayden remembered how Nicole had hurriedly snatched the medication pack from him last night. She’d seemed afraid of him seeing what it really was.
What medicine was Nicole actually taking?
Hayden went upstairs and headed straight for Nicole’s room. With her in the shower, he opened up her drawer and took her medicine out.
