Chapter 46
Hayden could feel how increasingly distant and harsh Nicole was being toward him.
What had gone wrong?
“Don’t you understand? Get out! From now on, you’re to never enter my room or even touch me unless I
say so!” Nicole snapped.
Hayden felt a heavy weight on his heart, making even breathing a painful act.
He gazed achingly at Nicole for a moment. Knowing that he was the one in the wrong and there was
nothing he could do to change things right now, he turned and left.
The moment the door was shut, Nicole shoved the empty medicine pack underneath her mattress. She
then flipped through her shelf to find a similarly–colored medicine pack and placed it on her bed.
Nicole was extremely dizzy after the night’s events. She immediately clambered back into bed and fell
asleep soon after.
Hayden was looking out the downstairs window at this moment.
Taylor saw that Hayden was in a bad mood. He then sighed and gathered his courage, saying, “You truly
didn’t handle this matter appropriately, sir.”
Hayden shot Taylor a cold glare, signaling him to shut up.
But Taylor steeled himself and continued, “Mrs. Spencer hasn’t been herself lately. Could it be because of Ms. Ashford’s presence? Mr. Matthew’s relationship with Ms. Ashford has deepened, which will only affect Mr. Matthew’s relationship with Mrs. Spencer.”
Having observed this family from the sidelines, Taylor had noticed that the atmosphere had changed ever
since Gloria returned.
Hayden narrowed his eyes, gaze still focused on something beyond the window. There was a peculiar
coldness in his eyes.
He rubbed his hands together for a long while before saying, “It’s not because of Gloria. It’s because of
someone else.”
As a mother, Nicole had many ways to reconnect with Matthew if their relationship was strained.
Nicole knew very well that Matthew was never one to respond to a more forceful approach. Yet, she never did anything to improve their relationship. She was now even allowing Matthew to stay at Olivia’s place as he pleased and didn’t plan to visit him.
In Hayden’s mind, it was all because of Jeremiah Petersen.
Hayden didn’t want to look into the man Nicole had met yesterday. He had to deal with Jeremiah first.

Hayden then turned to look at Taylor. “I need you to do something for me,” he said.
Taylor leaned in close and nodded after listening to Hayden’s instructions. Taylor then turned and left.
Hayden looked up at the tightly shut door of Nicole’s room.
“I will not allow anyone to ruin our relationship or our marriage,” he murmured.
That night, Nicole slept deeply for a long time. She couldn’t tell if it had been a dream or something that really happened–but she remembered Hayden standing at her bedside, gazing at her with quiet
tenderness.
Yet, the words that left his mouth brought chills down her spine.
“You’ll always be mine, Nicky. You’ll never escape me, so don’t even think about trying to.”
No. Nicole needed to leave. She needed to escape this miserable hell.
Her brow furrowed in her sleep.
It was the sudden ringing of her phone that woke her up in a fright.
It was a call from Jeremiah. The time currently displayed on her screen was 6:00 am.
She answered the call with bleary eyes. “What’s with the wake–up call, Dr. Petersen?”
Jeremiah chuckled helplessly. “I’ve been fired by the hospital and won’t be able to treat you anymore. I’ve already given the nurses your prescription. Remember to take it.”
Nicole’s heart sank upon hearing this terrible news. “Why were you fired all of a sudden?”
Jeremiah was the youngest and most skillful doctor in the entire hospital!
“I don’t know. I might’ve been set up,” Jeremiah said slowly.
Nicole’s grip around her phone tightened. She suddenly recalled something.
“Does your hospital director go by the last name of Timpton?”
“Yes.” Jeremiah was curious now. “Do you know him?”
Nicole’s gaze grew cold. Not only did she know who Anthony Timpton was, but she also knew that he was friends with Hayden!
“Don’t worry, Dr. Petersen. I’ll help you keep your job.”
Nicole then ended the call. She quickly changed her clothes and left.
