Chapter 44
Hayden was sitting on the couch, an untouched cup of coffee on the coffee table before him. It had long
turned cold.
Nicole went inside, meeting his dark gaze upon entering. She was briefly taken aback before she swapped her shoes for the slippers she usually wore in the house.
Hayden’s brow furrowed as Nicole remained silent. “Where were you? It’s so late at night right now,” he
said.
Nicole continued changing into her indoor slippers. “I went to get something done.”
“What sort of ‘thing‘ would require you to meet another man alone in a private dining suite, and even get Caleb beaten up to this extent?” Hayden pulled out his phone, displaying a picture of Caleb with his bruised, bleeding face.
Nicole’s wrist was still swollen and red from how hard Caleb had grabbed her earlier. The finger marks on
her skin were still glaringly obvious.
“Caleb deserved what he got for antagonizing me,” Nicole said coldly.
Hayden’s gaze grew even more sullen. “Who was that other man? Was it that doctor you met previously? Or some new friend you made?”
His interrogative tone made Nicole uncomfortable.
“Regardless of who he is, I’m not guilty of anything in any way. Feel free to trust in Caleb’s lies if you want. I don’t need to prove anything to you.” Nicole walked past Hayden after she said her piece.
Jealousy flared in Hayden’s eyes. He pulled Nicole into his arms and kissed her on the lips.
Nicole froze where she was. Disgust overwhelmed her as she thought about Hayden doing who–knows-
what with Gloria behind her back.
Nicole shakily bit down on Hayden’s lip and even tried to hit him. But Hayden swiftly grabbed her wrist.
His lower lip was now bleeding, but he didn’t seem to feel any pain at all. “You’re not even going to let me
touch you now?”
“Don’t you have someone else to bring you sexual relief besides me?” Nicole sneered.
Hayden was angered by her words.
He didn’t understand her at all. He hadn’t slept with anyone else. He’d only ever wanted to spend his life peacefully with Nicole all these years. When had there ever been anyone else for this sort of thing?
Overwhelmed with rage, he lifted Nicole into his arms.
He growled, “Then, it’s your turn to satisfy me tonight, isn’t it? You have a duty to do so since you’re my

wife!”
“Let me go!” Nicole struggled in his grasp.
But Hayden was too strong. She wasn’t able to escape him in the end.
Hayden thus took her into the bedroom and tossed her onto the bed.

The sudden sensation made Nicole dizzy. The back of her head began to ache. She was in great pain but
had no strength to fight back at all.
Hayden hadn’t noticed anything wrong yet. He flipped Nicole onto her front and took her where she lay.
Pain overwhelmed Nicole as she hadn’t been prepared yet.
“N–No…” she whimpered weakly.
Hayden leaned over her and asked possessively, “If it’s not me you want, then who is it? Who exactly do
you want, huh?”
Nicole finally stopped struggling and passed out.
Hayden didn’t notice this at all. Only when he saw no reaction from Nicole did he finally turn her around.
He gasped in shock at the sight before him.
Nicole’s face was covered in blood. The ghastly sight burned itself into his mind.
Her eyes were shut as well. She seemed like a wilted, lifeless flower.
Hayden swiftly regained his reason. Guilt filled his gaze as he quickly dressed Nicole.
She was covered in marks that were telltale signs of what had just happened. Anyone would be able to
understand what had happened at first glance.
Hayden couldn’t let anyone see Nicole like this.
His gaze was sullen as he hesitated over what to do. A moment later, he gave the Spencer family doctor
a phone call.
