Caleb turned around in shock. He was quickly punched in the face before he could see who had spoken.
Caleb fell to the floor, face aching with pain. He even tasted blood in his mouth.
Someone stepped on his chest before he could get back up.
Eugene had learned kickboxing before.
He looked down at Caleb as he shoved his foot into the latter’s chest. “What makes you think you have the right to touch Nicole?”
Nicole’s heart trembled as she quietly went to stand behind Eugene.
Caleb was pissed. He gasped out in pain, saying, “I… I was right. You two are hooking up… Ow!”
Eugene kicked Caleb twice in the ribs before the latter could finish speaking. The guests from the surrounding private dining suites were startled by the commotion. They peered out from the rooms to look.
Caleb had no strength to fight back. He curled up on the floor, crying out in a panic as he said, “What are you standing there for, Nicole? Hurry up and stop him before he kills me!”
Nicole looked down coldly at Caleb. “Why didn’t you think you’d suffer such consequences when you pushed me around? If you die, it’s only because you had it coming.”
“Just you wait, Nicole! Just you–ah!”
Eugene landed several punches on Caleb’s face right after the latter threatened Nicole. In the end, it was the restaurant staff who hurried over to stop Eugene.
Caleb was disheveled and covered in dirty shoe prints. He stayed motionless on the ground, covered in bruises and cuts.
Eugene tossed his name card atop Caleb. “Call my lawyer if you want to press charges. We can have a chat about that piece of land your cousin took from Pinnacle Development too.”
Caleb was shocked. He gazed incredulously at Eugene, then at Nicole.
Caleb had kept this ploy wrapped tight. How had Nicole and this stranger found out about it? If Hayden found out Caleb had orchestrated this entire thing, he’d be so pissed.
Caleb swallowed nervously. He’d thought to complain to Hayden about this matter, but now he wasn’t sure what to do anymore.
Eugene tucked his sleeves back and gave Nicole a glance.
Feeling gladdened, Nicole left with him right away.

It felt so nice to be protected.
Shawn used to be the one who protected Nicole overseas. He always made sure she never suffered even
the slightest and took care of her very well.
Falling in love with and marrying Hayden had to be the most foolish thing Nicole had ever done.
Nicole regretted having met Hayden. If she’d known things would come to this, she would’ve listened to Shawn and not married Hayden all those years ago.
Nicole shut her eyes to calm herself as much as she could after sitting in the car with Eugene.
Eugene looked upset. He sneered and said, “I finally understand why you want to divorce Hayden Spencer now. He’s surrounded by disrespectful fucks like that guy earlier. How did you tolerate the past seven years with Hayden?”
Nicole had nothing to say in return.
Caleb hadn’t treated her this way before Gloria showed up. Olivia hadn’t been so mean to Nicole before
either.
All Nicole could say was that they probably just hid their true nature well, just like Hayden and Matthew
themselves.
She looked out the window, feeling weak. “Thank you, Eugene.”
“What’s with the pleasantries? I’ll settle the land matter tomorrow. Pack your things, I’ll book a flight for you the day after.”
Eugene waved his hand, gesturing for the driver to send Nicole back first.
Nicole coughed lightly. “I’d like a boat ride back please, so a boat ticket will do. I want to admire the view
on the way back.”
“Okay.” Eugene wasn’t suspicious at all.
The car stopped outside the Spencer residence 15 minutes later.
Nicole got out of the car and waved goodbye to Spencer. She watched as the car turned around the
corner before she went into the house.
It was still bright inside.
