Chapter 39
Nicole blocked Hayden’s hand. “Iron supplements.”
She looked up. “I did what you asked. When are you going to give me that piece of land?”
Hayden frowned slightly, his attention diverted. He had brought Nicole to see Matthew, but it hadn’t changed the relationship between mother and son at all.
Nicole was making a mess of all his relationships, as if she didn’t want to be with him anymore. An indescribable sense of crisis rose in Hayden’s heart as he took Nicole’s hand.
“Come somewhere with me, and then we’ll discuss the land.”

More than ten minutes later, the car stopped outside a hotel in the city center. Nicole looked up at the
familiar sign and felt like she was in another lifetime.
It was the Royal Garden Hotel. This luxurious garden–style hotel in the city center was where she and
Hayden had held their wedding reception.
Seven years had passed in a flash. She had devoted herself to being a wife and mother without any time for herself, and hadn’t even visited this place once. The hotel hadn’t changed and still looked the same as
in her memories.
Hayden took Nicole’s hand and led her inside, straight to the top floor. The rooftop terrace was where they had hosted their guests. Nicole was surprised to discover that it looked almost exactly like it had
during their reception.
“I had people specially arrange this before we came. Isn’t it identical?” After Hayden spoke, he turned
aside and coughed a couple of times.
Nicole noticed the hydrangeas in the corner, her eyes darkening. Hayden was allergic to hydrangeas.
Contact with the pollen would make him cough and develop a fever.
During their wedding, just because she had mentioned that hydrangeas would make the decorations look better, Hayden had endured his discomfort. He ended up hospitalized for two days after the wedding.
Now, Hayden had still arranged for hydrangeas to be placed there just to recreate the original setup. Nicole couldn’t understand Hayden’s psychology behind doing this.
Why hurt himself for such gestures? Wasn’t that something someone could only willingly do for someone they truly loved? Her emotions were unsettled, and she was lost in thought when Hayden embraced her from behind.
“When we exchanged rings at our wedding, do you remember what I said?”
Nicole’s eyes flickered. “You said marriage was sacred, and that once you decided to marry, you would be

faithful to me alone and never betray me.”

“Yes, that’s right.” Hayden looked down, staring at Nicole’s pale, slender neck, unable to resist lowering his head to press his lips against it.
“I hope you feel the same way. You and that doctor…” Before he could finish, his phone started ringing.
Hayden couldn’t help coughing, clearing his throat uncomfortably as he took out his phone. Seeing the caller ID, he immediately turned the phone away from Nicole.
“I need to take this call.”
As he turned away, Nicole caught a glimpse of “Wedding Dress Designer” on the screen that flashed by.
“She smiled bitterly. What an act. He was planning to dump her and marry someone else, yet here he was, bringing her back to reminisce about their past.
Every time she thought Hayden couldn’t get more hypocritical, he managed to exceed her expectations.
Nicole’s face turned cold as she walked away. Two minutes later, Hayden returned to the terrace to find no one there.
He saw Nicole hailing a cab downstairs and assumed it was because his phone call had taken too long. He immediately went downstairs to catch up with her.
But before he could leave the hotel lobby, Caleb called him. Hayden frowned and answered impatiently, “I don’t have time to talk right now. If there’s something urgent, it can wait…”
“Hayden, I’m in trouble. Please help me, I’m begging you!” Caleb’s voice came through with a crying tone, as if he were on the verge of breaking down.
