Chapter 35
Nicole frowned. “Enough. Can you not make a scene here?”
“I’m making a scene or you are?” Hayden’s voice deepened with thick displeasure.
“Do you know that after you hit Matt, he went back to Aunt Olivia’s with a fever that won’t break? We tried calling you. Why didn’t you answer?”
Nicole paused slightly but still showed no reaction. “I didn’t give him the fever by hitting him. When someone’s sick, they see a doctor. What’s the point of calling me?”
She was still holding a gift from another man in her arms, which looked particularly grating to Hayden’s eyes. A strong surge of jealousy rose in his chest.
From the time they met until now, whether before or after marriage, Nicole had always been completely focused on him. She had never had contact with any man without his knowledge.
But now, Nicole actually had a male friend. A doctor, and quite handsome too.
The way they had been chatting and laughing together just now looked strangely well–matched. Hayden felt inexplicably irritated. An unfamiliar emotion surged up, making his words turn nasty.
“Are you not Matthew’s mother, or do you not want to be his mother anymore? You can just say so
directly.”
Nicole’s eyelashes trembled slightly. She looked up. “I don’t want to be his mother. Let Gloria do it instead.
Hayden’s expression suddenly turned cold. He grabbed Nicole’s wrist. “Are you saying this out of anger,
or…”
“I’m serious. I can stop being Matthew’s mother and stop being your wife too. Give it all to Gloria. I don’t
want any of it.”
Nicole shook off Hayden’s hand and turned to leave. His eyes darkened as he reached past Nicole and
pushed the door firmly shut.
Nicole looked back in shock, only to find him gripping her chin and pinning her against the door as he kissed her. At that moment, Jeremiah was still right there beside them.
She could clearly feel Jeremiah’s shocked and incredulous gaze, as if he was witnessing an assault. Instantly, a wave of humiliated rage surged through Nicole, and she bit down hard on Hayden’s lip.
Hayden winced in pain and came to his senses, guilt flashing in his eyes. How could he do something like
this to her?
Before the thought could fully form, Hayden caught sight of the decorative tree Nicole still held in her arms, and anger flared in his eyes again. “Are you interested in him? Is that why you want to divorce me?”

Nicole looked up in disbelief. She couldn’t understand how Hayden had the nerve to suspect her of having something going on with another man.
She hadn’t even mentioned that Hayden’s heart belonged to another woman, or exposed the fact that their marriage and certificate were fake. She had done this all to preserve some dignity between them.
But apparently, even these final days couldn’t pass quietly.
Her expression was cold. “Don’t make everything about romance. Can’t I have male friends? You have Ms. Ashford by your side, so why can’t I have other social connections?”
“That’s not what I meant.” Hayden’s voice suddenly softened as he pulled her outside.
“You know I’ve never restricted your freedom. It’s just that you slapped Matt, then disappeared for the whole night. When he got sick, you wouldn’t even go see him. That’s going too far.”
Nicole pressed her lips together.
“Just apologize to Matthew, and we can put this whole thing behind us, okay?” Hayden’s tone grew gentler.
Nicole looked up at him in disbelief, thinking she had misheard. “You want me to apologize to whom?” “I know Matt has been very disobedient lately, but regardless, you shouldn’t have slapped him so hard.”
