Chapter 25

Nicole hadn’t expected that Hayden would be on her side when it came to this matter. She thought Hayden’s guilt was a direct result of his plan to be cruel to her on their anniversary. It was likely that all his recent kindness was just a cover for what he was about to do.
A frown creased her brow, but then a sound came from upstairs.
Matthew emerged from his room, and the moment he spotted Nicole, his face darkened. The memory of her getting into another man’s car in front of his kindergarten was still fresh in his mind, causing a surge of anger in him.
Deliberately ignoring Nicole, he sped downstairs and rushed to Olivia, calling out sweetly, “Great–aunt
Olivia.”
In response, Olivia pulled him into a hug.
“Great–aunt Olivia, can I stay with you for the next few days?”
Surprised, Olivia asked, “What? Why do you suddenly want to live with me?”
Matthew glanced at Nicole before huffing, “She’s not my mother anymore, and I don’t want to talk to her
ever again!”
He still remembered the art exhibition clearly, and the recent family day incident only made it worse. He hadn’t been able to sleep and couldn’t even get in the mood to play his games. He definitely wouldn’t forgive Nicole easily, not unless she apologized for ignoring and being mean to him lately.
This time, he was insisting on leaving with Olivia instead of staying at home. Surely, Nicole would panic? Since she was also staying at the hotel and refusing to come back as a way to scare him, he would just
use the same method.
Realizing Matthew was doing this to purposely piss off Nicole, Olivia swiftly grabbed the boy’s hand. ” Come on, pack your things and come with me. I’ll take you to visit Gloria another day.”
With one last triumphant scoff, she led Matthew away to quickly pack his things.
Hayden massaged his throbbing temples, not expecting Matthew to add fuel to the fire at this stage. He
said in a warning tone, “Matt.”
Matthew refused to listen to Hayden. He deliberately walked past Nicole without looking at her. “Daddy,
you don’t have to worry. I’ll be fine at Great–aunt Olivia’s.”
With that said, Olivia and Matthew turned to head outside.
A burst of footsteps abruptly rang out behind them, sounding like someone was jogging over in a hurry.
“It’s definitely not Daddy, so it can only be Mommy,” Matthew thought with a smug smirk. “I knew she would definitely be scared! Once I made it clear I was truly leaving, she would definitely stop me.”

Nicole ran up to them, calling out, “Wait a minute!”
Matthew put on a stony expression, yet he was barely holding back his smile. “What else do you want?”
Ignoring him, Nicole handed the backpack she was holding to Olivia. “You forgot to take his backpack. He
has school tomorrow.”
With that, she spun on her heel and left.
Matthew was left rooted to the spot, utterly dumbfounded. Gone was his earlier smug delight.
