Chapter 19
Nicole simply wasn’t that great at dealing with such matters. “Yeah. Is there a problem?”
Her retort left Hayden speechless, but he made sure to commit that name to memory.
Once he had left, Nicole finally relaxed. She was thankful that Hayden hadn’t discovered the truth about Jeremiah, nor had he continued to insist on her returning home.
Just then, her phone rang.
Giving herself a second to regain her composure, she noticed that the call was from Matthew’s school. When she remembered what had happened the last time they called, she quickly answered the phone.
The teacher’s voice instantly came over the line. “Hello, Mrs. Spencer. Everyone is already here, so why haven’t you come to participate in the family day event yet?”
Nicole paused, and it was only then that she recalled that she had promised Matthew a month ago that
she would attend the family day event.
Due to Matthew’s outgoing personality and love for thrills, it was only natural that he signed up for the
indoor rock climbing event.
However, she remembered that Jeremiah had advised her against intense activity, as that could cause her intracranial pressure to rise. Still, she decided to call Jeremiah and seek his counsel once more.
The moment Jeremiah heard what she wanted to do, he vehemently stopped her. “No! This will certainly affect your body negatively. You’re very weak right now, so you can’t afford any more stress.”
Nicole had no choice but to call the school back. “I’m so sorry, but I have an emergency right now, so I
can’t make it to the event-”
She was abruptly cut off by Matthew’s complaint. “But you clearly promised to come! You’re going back
on your word!”
She paused briefly before coldly uttering, “I’ve already said that I’m not your mother. If you want someone to attend your family day event, go to your father or Gloria. There’s no way I’m going.”
With that, she ended the call, not allowing Matthew a chance to speak.
Almost immediately, her phone started ringing again.
Nicole thought it was Matthew again, yet when she picked up, a man’s voice spoke up. “Mrs. Spencer,
someone is interested in the house you put up for sale a few days ago and wants to meet to sign the
contract. Are you available now?”
Nicole blinked in surprise, then recalled that the house in question was a small villa she had bought when Matthew was three. It was located close to a primary school and had a beautiful lake view.
Now that she was about to leave the country, she had to settle the assets she held with Hayden. She had

hired an agent to help her sell the house. She hadn’t expected to have a buyer so soon.
She hurriedly agreed, “I’ll head over right away. Please send me the address.”
Coincidentally, the coffee shop they were meeting at happened to be near Matthew’s kindergarten.

Nicole didn’t even spare it a glance as she walked past it and crossed the street to the coffee shop where the client was already waiting.
The client also had a child and was urgently hoping to buy a property near a primary school. Having taken a liking to Nicole’s villa and not lacking money, they were more than happy to sign off on the spot.
After signing the contract and sending the client off, Nicole took out her phone, only to see that she had over a dozen missed calls. They were all from Jeremiah.
Confused, she dialed his number, but then she heard a man calling out to her breathlessly, “Ms. Jensen!”
Looking over her shoulder, she was shocked when she spotted Jeremiah jogging toward her with an anxious expression.
Meanwhile, at the kindergarten, the family day events had ended. Matthew glumly waved goodbye to Gloria. Though she had come to attend the event, he couldn’t bring himself to feel happy about it.
Just as he was about to head home, he suddenly spotted Nicole standing on the corner of the street across from him. She was smiling as she talked with a man before she took a seat in the passenger seat of his car. Then, the car sped off.
In an instant, Matthew’s eyes widened as he glared furiously at the vehicle. No wonder Nicole hated him and didn’t want him anymore. As it turned out, she was betraying him and Hayden!
He tapped at his phone agitatedly, not wanting to waste even a second more as he reported this incident to Hayden.
