chapter66
He poured himself another drink and walked over to the glass balcony of the private room.
On the dance floor below, men and women pressed close, dancing passionately. Even through the soundproof glass, the heat of the party could be felt.
Earlier, when he said he envied Desmond, it was half a joke, but also half true.
In the past, he too had been like Desmond–drinking, partying, living recklessly.
But that incident had killed the carefree boy he once was.
Overnight, fate had seized him by the throat and dragged him into harsh reality.
Every step he took now had to be weighed carefully; he dared not make a single misstep.
Claudine wanted a divorce, but right now, the Barrette Group was on the rise, and he was preparing to restructure its organization.
The board already had major issues with him. If he divorced at this time, his personal image would definitely suffer, and the board would seize the opportunity to attack him.
So, even if there had to be a divorce, it absolutely could not be now!
In the time it took to smoke a cigarette, he had already made up his mind.
Not only could he not get divorced, he also needed Claudine to cooperate with him to create the image of a stable family.
As for why Claudine insisted on divorce, though she never said the reason, Damian could more or less guess.
It was most likely because of Audrey,
Otherwise, why would Claudine be living downstairs from Audrey and even planning to pursue a PhD under Adri- ana?
He understood her intentions perfectly!
Actually, making her change her mind was quite simple.
Though he had never tried to coax a woman before, he knew that flowers and gifts were the keys to winning a wom
an’s heart.
After all, he knew exactly how much Claudine cared about him!
Damian already had a plan in mind.

He set down his glass, grabbed his coat, and headed out.
Desmond, still on the sofa, called out.
“Dami, where are you going now? Let me come with you!”
Without looking back, Damian said, “You keep playing!”
Desmond glanced at the now–empty private room. Damian had sent everyone away–who was he supposed to party with now!
Claudine drove all the way back to Willow Creek Villas.
Thinking of Damian’s words, even though she no longer had any hope for that man, her heart still ached.
He really was a bastard!
He cheated during their marriage, lived with another woman, and now he actually wanted her to leave with nothing!
Thinking of everything Damian had done, Claudine hated herself for waking up so late!
There was no way she would leave with nothing. Claudine contacted a lawyer.
Since there was no direct evidence of Damian’s infidelity, the lawyer said that if Damian refused to agree to the di- vorce, it would be very difficult to get one even if she filed a lawsuit.
After hanging up, Claudine leaned back in her car seat, feeling utterly exhausted.
Just as expected!
Marriage is a pit–easy to fall into, but to climb out, you have to shed a layer of skin…
No matter what, she was determined to divorce Damian.
She could not endure her husband’s betrayal, nor could she accept being trapped in that gilded cage again, living as a woman who could only rely on a man-“Mrs. Barrette.”
Claudine raised her arm and covered her eyes.
How could she get Damian to agree to the divorce?
Early the next morning, before Claudine had even woken up, she was startled awake by the sound of the doorbell.
She hadn’t slept well all night, and now being disturbed so early in the morning, it was inevitable that she felt an- noyed.
“Who is it!”
Claudine, still grumpy from just waking up, went to open the door, only to be greeted by an enormous bouquet of
fresh flowers.

“Mrs. Barrette, these are your flowers. Please sign for them!”
Claudine glanced at the card, thinking she must still be half–asleep and seeing things.
Damian
“Mrs. Barrette, please sign here!
Claudine frowned.
“You’ve got the wrong address. There is no ‘Mrs. Barrette‘ here!”
With that, Claudine shut the door right away.
But the very next second, the door was knocked on again.
Claudine opened the door with a cold expression.
This time, besides the flower delivery guy from before, there were several other people,
“Mrs. Barrette, here is your gift box. Please sign for it!”
“Mrs. Barrette, these are the latest seasonal pieces Mr. Barrette ordered for you. May we come in and arrange them for you?”
“Mrs. Barrette….”
Claudine felt as if there were countless flies buzzing in her ears, making her head ache.
And the culprit behind all of this was Damian.
She couldn’t understand what exactly Damian was trying to do!
