But what she feared even more was Damian blaming her!
Damian stroked his daughter’s little face. Seeing her temperature drop, he finally began to relax.
“I don’t blame you. You’ve never taken care of a child before, so it’s normal not to know these things.
“It’s me who thought I had fulfilled my responsibilities to Darla, but…”
Just then, the door to the hospital room was pushed open.
It was the maid from home who had rushed over.
“Mr. Barrette, how is Miss Barrette?”
When Damian rushed Darlene to the hospital earlier, the maid thought of the notes Claudine had sent her and hurried over as well.
Damian said, “She’s fine now. By the way, what exactly are Darla’s allergens?”
The maid began to speak.
“Miss Barrette was always cared for by Mrs. Barrette. Every time she felt unwell, it was Mrs. Barrette who brought her to the hospital. No one knows Miss Barrette’s allergens better than Mrs. Barrette.”
Audrey glanced at the maid, but with Damian present, she said nothing.
“Mrs. Barrette organized all of Miss Barrette’s information and gave it to me. I brought it with me.”
As she spoke, the maid took out the printed documents.
“Mrs. Barrette is so attentive. She even wrote down all of Miss Barrette’s likes and dislikes.”
Audrey reached past Damian and took the stack of papers.
“Dami, your wife could have come here herself. Why bother sending this through the maid?”
The servant listened to these words and couldn’t help but feel that they didn’t sound very pleasant.
But as a servant, she knew it wasn’t her place to say anything.
Damian, however, didn’t catch any hidden meaning in Audrey’s words and simply replied.
“She has always been attentive to Darla. Over the years, it’s thanks to her care that Darla has grown up so well.”
Audrey’s expression froze for a moment, then she spoke.

“Yes, I’m very grateful to her too!
“But as Darla’s mother, I haven’t fulfilled my responsibilities for so many years.
“Dami, now that I’ve returned to the country, I want to live with Darla from now on and make up for the regrets be- tween us as mother and daughter. Is that alright?”
Damian glanced at Audrey beside him.
He hesitated a little.
“Aren’t you still preparing for your doctoral exams? Besides, taking care of a child isn’t easy…‘
Audrey had her own plans.
She said, “It’s fine, Darla is very sensible and won’t affect me.
“Darla even told me tonight that she hopes to be with me every day from now on. Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of her.”
Damian looked at his daughter lying on the hospital bed. “Let’s wait until Darla wakes up to discuss this. If she truly wants to live with you, I’ll arrange for a servant to move with Darla to your place, so it will be easier for you.”
Audrey couldn’t help but smile at the first half of his sentence, but when she heard Damian suggest that Darlene would live at her place, her smile froze instantly.
She had thought she could use this opportunity to move back into Belmont Villas.
“Ah… alright, that’s fine too…”
She quickly returned to normal, not letting Damian notice anything.
After all, Dami and that Claudine hadn’t divorced yet. If she moved back to Belmont Villas now, it would be some- what inappropriate….
Dami was also considering her reputation.

Claudine didn’t sleep well all night. When she woke up in the morning, her headache was severe, and even after tak- ing painkillers, it didn’t help.
She had been like this ever since her miscarriage.
Whenever she didn’t rest well, she would feel unwell the next day, and catching colds and fevers had become com-
mon.
It was clear how much a miscarriage could damage a woman’s body.
Her work required not only a clear mind but also a healthy body.
After thinking it over, Claudine decided to go to the hospital.

She made an appointment with the doctor who had previously operated on her and carefully described her recent
symptoms.
Nelda Meyer looked over her test results and reminded her to get plenty of rest, especially to maintain a good mood.
During her ectopic pregnancy, she had lost too much blood, and her body needed time to recover, it couldn’t be rushed.
Claudine took note of all these instructions.
“Additionally!”
Nelda took off her glasses. “Did you come alone? Is there any family member accompanying you?”
Previously, Claudine had undergone surgery alone, and there had been plenty of gossip in the hospital. As Claudine’s attending physician, Nelda had heard quite a bit.
Regardless of whether those rumors were true, as a doctor, she felt it was necessary to inform the patient of her real condition.
After all, this concerned a young woman’s entire life.
