“Daddy promises you, Claudine will be back very soon, okay?”
Darlene shook her head.
She wasn’t going to beg Claudine to come back!
She wasn’t some pitiful, unwanted child!
She hugged her father’s neck tightly and wiped away all her tears.
“I don’t want Claudine to come back!”
Darlene shouted.
“I have my own mommy! I want mommy to come back! Daddy, I want mommy to stay with me!”
Children’s tempers come and go quickly. Darlene, strong–willed by nature, had now decided that since she’d waited so long and Claudine still hadn’t come back, she didn’t want anything to do with Claudine anymore.
She still had her mommy!
She could have her mommy stay with her!
Damian couldn’t stand to see his daughter sad, especially since she’d waited so long for Claudine today and must be feeling terrible. Maybe it was best to have Audrey come and keep her company.
“Then Daddy will call and ask if Mommy has time. If Mommy is already resting, we’ll invite her over tomorrow, okay?”
Darlene nodded, sniffling.
She was certain in her heart that Mommy would come to be with her!
Mommy had said that she and Daddy were the people who loved her most in the world.
After settling his child, Damian left the house.
Claudine’s situation had to be resolved as soon as possible.
If she made a big scene and found out about what happened back then, both Audrey and Darlene would be dragged
into it.
He absolutely couldn’t let that happen!
Fortunately, all this trouble Claudine was causing was just to get his attention.

Even though he thought she was foolish, at this moment he actually felt a bit relieved.
Foolish or not, at least he wouldn’t have to put in much effort to keep her under control.
On the way, he called Lindsay.
“Find out which restaurants Mrs. Barrette likes for dinner and snacks, and tell me within half an hour!”
Hearing this, Lindsay, usually decisive at work, still gritted her teeth and asked a question that was a professional taboo for any secretary.
“Mr. Barrette, do you want me to investigate Claudine’s preferences? Or Audrey’s?”
Damian’s voice turned cold, “Claudine!”
“Okay, Mr. Barrette!”
Though she didn’t understand, Lindsay didn’t ask any further.
She immediately ended her date with the young man and switched into work mode.
Twenty minutes later, Damian received a list.
“There are a few snacks on the list.”
Looking at the items, Damian felt a bit skeptical.
One of them was something he often ate, while the others were all Darlene’s favorites.
He called Lindsay.
“Are you sure these are Claudine’s favorites?”
“Yes, Mr. Barrette. I asked the servants at Belmont Villas, and these are the snacks Mrs. Barrette usually buys. I’ve al- ready placed online orders and arranged for couriers to buy them separately. Should I have them delivered to Mrs. Barrette’s residence?”
“No need, just have them sent to the entrance of the community. I’ll wait there.”
Lindsay stared at the disconnected call, her mind blank, unable to comprehend what Damian meant by that.
Was he going to appease Mrs. Barrette?
Then what about Audrey, who was in the office today?
So, does Mr. Barrette want both of them now?
Thinking of this, Lindsay shook her head vigorously.
She never expected Mr. Barrette to be that kind of man!
Now she was truly disillusioned with Mr. Barrette!

Damian drove to Claudine’s building.
The food delivery hadn’t arrived yet. Damian got out of the car and lit a cigarette.
It was already the twelfth lunar month, and nights in Bronzevale were very cold.
A gust of cold wind made Damian shiver.
He immediately got back into the car.
Thinking that one day he’d be out here at night, delivering snacks and braving the cold just to appease a woman, he felt he must be crazy!
He looked up at the night sky.
There weren’t many stars tonight, but the one directly overhead was especially bright.
Damian took a deep drag of his cigarette and exhaled a cloud of blue smoke.
He spoke softly to the empty air.
“Forget it, I guess I owe you.”
***
Damian stood at the door of Claudine’s house, carrying a box of pastries.
He was just about to ring the doorbell when he suddenly remembered what had happened last time.
This time, he definitely didn’t want to be mistaken for a bad guy by the security guard again!
He called Claudine.
At that moment, Claudine had just finished her shower and was applying a face mask.
Hearing her phone ring, she closed her eyes and used voice control to answer the call.
“Open the door!”
Hearing that familiar and annoying voice, Claudine lifted her mask and glanced at the call screen.
It really was Damian!
How did he find this place!
