When the car arrived at Belmont Villas, he got out and instructed the butler.

Take the flowers and gift boxes out of the car, and tell the kitchen to prepare more dishes tonight. Mrs. Barrette will be coming home.”

Yes, sir!”

Damian walked toward the front door, and Darlene, hearing the sound of the car, ran out of the house.

Seeing her father, she immediately dashed over on her short little legs.

Daddy!”

Damian crouched down, picked up his daughter, and kissed her soft cheek.

Darlene immediately noticed what the butler was carrying behind him.

Daddy, those flowers are so pretty! Are they for me?”

They’re for Claudine. She’s coming home tonight.”

Really? That’s wonderful!”

Children quickly forget past unhappiness; all Darlene could think about was having Claudine play with her tonight.

She clapped her little hands in excitement, waiting for Claudine.

She sat on the living room sofa, staring eagerly at the front door, hoping to see Claudine the moment she arrived.

She wanted to show Claudine her new dress.

Her mother had bought it for hera beautiful new dress.

But she waited and waited, until her stomach started to rumble, and Claudine still hadn’t come home…

Damian came out of his study; it was now completely dark outside.

He took out his phone, intending to call Claudine, but instead received a call from his friend Desmond.

You mean you saw Claudine at the law firm?”

Yeah!”

There was a hint of excitement in Desmond’s voice.

Dami, congratulations! You can finally get rid of that woman! Tell me, did she see Audrey come back and realize

she wouldn’t be able to stay by your side for long? Maybe she was afraid you’d ask for a divorce first and she’d be at a disadvantage, so she decided to leave on her own accord!”

If you look at it that way, at least she has some selfawareness!

But Damian didn’t see it that way.

He had been married to Claudine for five years. Although they rarely communicated, he knew her well enough.

He knew exactly how much she valued him.

There was no way she would agree to a divorce so easily!

Besides, if she really had that much selfawareness, why would she go to such lengths to target Audrey?

The law firm you mentioned, is it Constalex Law Firm in the Golderex Building under your group?”

Yes!”

Desmond replied.

I have to inspect the place every Wednesday. It’s a task from my dad, you know that!”

At this point, Desmond suddenly realized something was off.

Did Claudine already guess I’d be there?”

Damian said, I must have mentioned it unintentionally before.”

So, she wasn’t accidentally seen by me today, but was deliberately waiting there? Why would she want me to see her?”

Desmond couldn’t figure it out,

Damian walked downstairs with his phone in hand.

She wanted you to see her because she’s certain that you, with your big mouth, would definitely tell me about it!

She’s living in the same community as Audrey now, and she’s competing with Audrey for a PhD spot.

Letting you see that scene today was probably her way of using you to tell me, to make me feel threatened.”

Desmond let out a cold snort.

Claudine really is dreaming! Does she think she can still play hard to get with you?

I think you should just go along with her plan, divorce her directly, and see what tricks she can pull then!”

Damian furrowed his brow.

I won’t let it get to the point of divorce with her!”

Desmond instinctively opened his mouth in surprise.

If you don’t divorce, what about your wife?”

Damian’s frown deepened.

I have my own plans! Don’t tell anyone about her going to the law firm!”

With that, Damian hung up the phone.

The servant saw Damian finally come downstairs and asked, Mr. Barrette! It’s almost nine o’clock. Shall we serve dinner now, orwait a bit longer for Mrs. Barrette?”

Damian glanced at his daughter on the sofa.

The little one must have gotten tired of waiting; she was already asleep on a pillow.

The servant noticed Damian’s gaze and said, Miss Barrette has already eaten. I wanted her to go to bed early, but she said she wanted to wait for Mrs. Barrette to come home.”

Damian strode over to the sofa.

Clear away dinner!”

He bent down and gently picked up his daughter.

Darlene rubbed her eyes and asked sleepily, Is Claudine back?”

She had something come up and won’t be back tonight. Daddy will take you to your room to sleep.”

Hearing that Claudine wasn’t coming back, Darlene pouted, her eyes immediately turning red with grievance.

She hadn’t seen Claudine for a very long time.

As her father, how could he bear to see his precious daughter upset?
