She shouted at Claudine’s departing figure.
“If you don’t stay with me, I’ll never talk to you again!”
But Claudine didn’t stop, walking straight out the main doors of the Barrette’s mansion.
Soon after, Damian received a phone call.
Audrey, who was beside him, asked, “It’s so late, who could be calling?”
Damian glanced at the incoming call.
“It’s Darla!”
He pressed the answer button, and Darla’s sobs came through the receiver.
“Daddy, Claudine left, she doesn’t want to stay with me! I hate Claudine, I never want to see her again!”
On the other end of the line, Darlene kept crying uncontrollably.
She had no idea how hurtful the things she had just said to Claudine were, all she knew was that Claudine had left, leaving her all alone!
Audrey, listening to her daughter’s heartbroken sobs, naturally felt uneasy
“Is it because of me that Claudine treats Darla this way? It’s all my fault, maybe I shouldn’t have come back!”
Audrey’s eyes shimmered with tears, and the face that should have been bright was now clouded with a heartbreaking sense of guilt
Daman patted Audrey’s shoulder and gently comforted her
“Don’t overthink it, this has nothing to do with you!”
Audrey’s face still showed guilt and self–blame. She lowered her head, using the motion of wiping her eyes to hide the pride in het gase
But Damian’s nest words made her previously plated heart sink instantly
“Claudine has always been devoted to Darla There must be so misunderstanding between them!”
Damian then spoke to Darla on the phone
“Darla, Claudine probably has other things to take care of, that’s why she couldn’t stay with you.
Once she’s done, she’ll definitely come back.”

Darlene had always believed everything her father said.
She sniffled.
“Really? But she hasn’t spent time with me for so long…”
Audrey took the phone, her voice extremely gentle.
“Don’t cry, sweetheart. You don’t like being home alone, do you? How about Mommy comes to keep you company?”
Damian stood right beside Audrey. Hearing this, he frowned slightly, but in the end said nothing.
After all, Darla was her daughter!
As soon as Darlene heard that her mother was coming to stay with her, she immediately jumped up with joy.
“Really? Mommy, can you really come and stay with me?”
Darla’s expectant voice carried a hint of caution.
She had always liked her mother. When her father took her abroad to see her, she longed for hugs and kisses, but her mother never seemed to enjoy being close.
Back then, she thought maybe her mother didn’t like her…
But after her mother returned to the country, she called every day and always held her tight when they met.
Although her mother always smelled a bit too fragrant, making her sneeze every time.
But she still liked her mother very much.
Now that her mother said she would come to stay with her, did that mean she could live with her mother from now
on?
That would be wonderful!
Audrey was delighted to hear her daughter so excited.
“Of course, you’re Mommy’s precious girl. Of course Mommy wants to be with you.”
After saying this, she seemed to realize there might be something inappropriate.
Audrey gently covered the phone and looked at the man beside her.
“Would it be inconvenient if I went over to see Darla? If it’s not convenient… then forget it, I don’t want you and Claudine to have more conflicts.”
Darlene heard everything on the other end of the line. Before Damian could respond, the little one started clamoring.
“No, no, I want Mommy to come! Daddy, let Mommy stay with me!”
Facing Audrey’s eager gaze, Damian said, “Of course you can. You’re Darla’s mother, you can visit her anytime.”

Audrey immediately shared the good news with her daughter. The mother and daughter chatted for a while longer be-
fore reluctantly hanging up.
Damian put away his phone.
“Let’s go, it’s time to board.”
“Okay.”
The two walked side by side out of the airport’s VIP lounge, heading for the boarding gate.
After returning from Belmont Estates, Claudine didn’t go straight home but instead visited her professor.
She still had some professional questions about her thesis topic that needed her professor’s guidance.
After parking the car in front of the faculty dormitory, Claudine got out, carrying the supplements she had brought for her professor.
Prof. Nixon’s apartment was one of the earliest faculty residences at Camberwell University. The hallway was nar- row, many basic facilities were old and inconvenient, and installing an elevator was not allowed.
As Claudine climbed the stairs, she thought about how her professor was getting older and had trouble moving around. Maybe she should help her find a more convenient place to live.
